Is this an Artisan item or a Weaponsmith item? I am primarily concerned with experimentation points.

The experimentation points are determined by weaponsmith skill not artisan.

I'm pretty sure that Bowcasters are rifles... check the rifleman forum.

Unfortunatly they are rifles

But hopefully we may see more of wookiee weaponary for use carbineers

I honestly cba, i almost master carbineer so that would be alot of wasted hunts

Hmm...but a Bowcaster carbine would be cool!
