Thread: is there another way besides doing artisan mission to get artisan xp
The 4th tree is the surveying tree. You get surveying xp by surveying for a resource (any resource), then clicking the 'get sample' button. If you successfully find a sample of that resource, then you get xp for that tree. You're more likely to find a sample if you're standing on a high concentration of that resource. You need a survey tool to survey or sample. You can make one, or buy one from the bazaar. If you don't have much money, then sampling for resources is a good way to get what you need for crafting artisan stuff (see the first paragraph). Hope this helps...

Aah. Merchant xp is different (I think you're trying to get to novice merchant). You need to place a vendor somewhere. At artisan business 3 (which you can get by crafting artisan stuff), you get the ability to place a vendor. Go you a house where you are admin (place a house if you don't already have a house), and one of the options in the structure management terminal is to create a vendor. This allows you to make a vendor that's placed in your inventory. Drop this vendor somewhere in your house. You then need to initialize the vendor (on the radial menu for the vendor), pay maintenance on it, and place an item for sale on it. Once the vendor is set up like this, you get 150 merchant xp per hour just for having the vendor. You'll get to novice merchant in no time.
You also get some experience every time someone uses your vendor (I think 50 xp per person or so). So if you're going to set up a shop there, you may as well start with that vendor. Just put what you want to sell on there, and enable vendor search on the vendor. Then people can see your stuff from the bazaar. If you sell good stuff at a good price, then they'll flock to your shop, and get you merchant xp even faster.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them. Elyssa is the queen of all merchanthood, so you're likely to get good answers...
You need Merchant XP to get novice merchant, but you need Business 4 before you can qualify for it.
Once you have Business 3 you can place a vendor. At Business 4 you'll get another one.
Having these vendors will let you gain Merchant XP.
There's an excellent guide that's stickied in the Merchant forum that will help you.
In the meantime, you will continue to need regular general crafting xp to get Business 4.
I'm not sure why you aren't getting it from crafting things.
Be sure you arecrafting artisan schematics, not schematics from other professions.
Crafting tools and survey devices are always good choices.

ok thx so what columns should i be looking at when i craft. like theres weapons and either generic and misc.plz help
Really any of those are fine. Just choose what you want to craft based on what resources you have. And make sure that what you're crafting is an artisan item. You can see what artisan items you can craft by opening your skill page (cntl-s), and clicking on the artisan boxes that you have.
For instance, at novice artisan, one of the items you can craft is a survival knife. So if you open your Weapon/Droid/General item crafting tool, and look under the weapons tab, you'll see that survival knife is one of the options. If you have some metal, then craft a few of those and you'll get enough artisan xp to train another box. If you train in one of the first two artisan trees (engineering or domestic arts), then you'll get even more items you can craft.
