I've seen a lot of complaints about surveying from mounts. The truth is, while it is a bit more of a pain, you can make it a lot less of a hassle by using a macro. Make a macro that looks like this:
/dismount;/pause 1;/survey;/pause 1;/mount
You'll need to dismount and pick the resource you want to find first, but then when you are chasing down the highest density, just hit the button for this macro.

Surveying, healing, crafting, and game communication can all be done while your character is in the "running" state. You can even heal during combat.
But you can't do any of these while mounted. IMO if you can do it while running you can do it while mounted. Surveying & healing especially should remain available when mounted.

lol Vaedross, I know this doesn't apply because SWG is a game, try building something with legos while running. Now try building the same thing while riding a horse, and you will see the difference...course thats a reallife example so it doesnt count i know i know

There's a difference between making a game realistic and making a game fun.
I will give you crafting while mounted & running are both not realistic... so perhaps they should nerf both is that what you want? It would certainly be more realistic.

no, im saying its alot easier to do something while running then while riding sumthing, however i agree with the mount issue (that we should have em for surveying!)

There's another distinction: If you're too distracted while running you'll trip and fall on your face. You don't have that problem when mounted, the horse does most of the work.
Galloping however takes personal concentration, so yeah maybe no crafting when galloping makes sense.
