It pretty much depends on what a person harvests for. Since you're going the miner route and just harvesting to sell to others, find the best one or two resources you can, and suck up a lot. Harvesting for crafting purposes gets a little complicated, because most crafting professions need a wide range of materials to make their items, especially at the higher levels. This makes it a little hard to get the best materials, since that might require having harvs on multiple planets. That's especially true of flora resources, since those are different on every planet. I'll use a slightly inferior material if it means I don't have to shuttle out to Yavin every other day.

You can make money in the resource business, mostly by getting to know what your customers need. Architects need ungodly amounts of ore, quality doesn't really matter. Weaponsmiths require some pretty specific resource types, almost all needing high OQ and conductivity. Armorsmiths need materials with high Unit Toughness, OQ, and Shock Resist. www.swgcraft.com is great for checking what's currently spawning, the stats, and has a "resource usage" lookup to see what crafters need that type of resource. Look through the crafting schematics for a feel on what you might be able to sell.

You can also just get into the power business. Pick up a fusion generator or two, survey for a good concentration of high PE radioactive, and sell at 1 or 2 credits per unit. Even on a 50% spot, a 14 BER fusion generator pulls in 10k units a day, costing only 1440 credits to run forthat 24 hours.

Oh, and a tip for maximizing your harvesting profits: unless you have very few free lots, stick to high rate (9 or 10 BER) medium harvesters.Mediums cost twice as much as personals in maintenance and power, but personals top out at 4 units per minute. Heavies have a max rate of 13 or 14, but maintenance/power costs are1.5 times as much as mediums and they're more of a pain to place in rough terrain.

Thanks for the great info. I will check out swgcraft and see what I can find.

Just started Artisan and was getting the feel of placing harvesters on corellia. What I did was survey for a mineral, for example, and place all of my harvesters on that spot. I figured I would get the maximum benefit running multiple in one area.

I was wondering how other people do it. Do you place one for a specific mineral and then place others elsewhere for different minerals? Is a lot of time spent finding the best quality or do you just find the most quantity?

I thought I would try gathering the resources and selling them rather than making stuff with them. I have MS and MCH and that is my main interest right now. I was thinking that there might be a need for the resources. Is this true, or do Artisan just get their own stuff?

Some thoughts on how to maximize my efforts would be appreciated.

My harvesters stay put and pull whats there. As long as it is above 30% I make money. I only move my fusion gen. This makes harvester maintenance less time consuming.

My method is prayer. Usually by the time I get to a decent concentration of a particular resource, it's camped to all hell already. Not to mention the countless "You can not build a structure in your current state" (just keep trying again and again) or "Building is not permitted here" messages I get. Usually if I find a resource that's like 70%, I end up wandering to find a place to plop a harvester and by the time I find one it's down to about 10%.

Yay.
