I know this is a noob question. I have searched all the threads I could find to get an answer but I wasn't able to find one. Can someone give me some insight please? What happens if my hopper gets full on either my energy generators or resource extractors? Say I don't get online for a week and a few hoppers fill totally up. Does the machine just stop and wait for me to arrive and empty it? Is there a possible problem that can arrise? Thanks for your input.

It'll just stop. Maintenance and so on will continue to be required, but the harvester will no longer extract anything if the hopper is full until it's emptied.

Thank you for your quick response. Now I don't feel like I have to be at every harvestor every day.

You know what's a real [censored]? Last, oh, November or something like that, the introduced a patch. I had bought some solar harvesters from an architect like a couple days before the patch. Well that patch 'fixed' harvesters by making it so that experimentation on stuff like hopper size actually worked. Before that patch, all harvesters had the same extract rate and hopper size. Well, anyhow, long story short I had payed like 100k creds for 4 solar harvesters, and after the patch they all had hopper sizes of like 800 units or something so low that the harvesters would, combined, only harvest about 2400 units of solar. They were stopping harvesting after like 4 hours. I was shocked when I came to my harvesters expecting, oh, about 8000 units in each harvester and only found 800. Man was I hacked-off about that.
