Thread: A Quick and Dirty Guide to Artisan Grinding.
I don't grind. I haven't had to, in fact I believe that when grinding Exp comes slower.
However, since some of you apparently like to grind. Here are some pointers.
1. Make a new set of tools at every level of Engineering, and Domestic Arts.
At each level of these trees, you get more points of experimentation. You also get usage exp for using the tools. With a new set of tools at each level, your tools will become more effective (fewer criticals and lost resources). The only resources you need are a metal with high conductivity and DR, and a Chem with high DR.
2. Use more than one crafting tool for quicker grinding.
If you use only one crafting tool, you have to wait for the product to be deposited before you can reboot it. But as of right now, you can have multiple crafting tools, you can start a new crafting session while the other is finishing up.
3. Don't waste your time putting very cheap items on the bazaar for UXP.
There are a lot of folks that will buy up your 1cr powerups, and resell them at a higher price, or even destroy them just because you are grinding them out, and they know it. If you put someting on the bazaar, go ahead and undercut the prices, but if it's too cheap, don't expect to ever see the UXP.
4. Anything you are putting on the bazaar should be experimented.
It adds 15 seconds to the crafting process andcan increase the quality quite a bit. A little more effort at creation will go a long way toward making them something that folks will want to put their credits toward (which is what you want for UXP).
5. Forget about grinding out harvesters for exp.
Harvesters pay out in structure exp, not gc exp. They will not help you get to Engineering 4 or beyond.
6. Make items that use components, and use components you craft.
Many of the tailoring items use fiberplast panels, bone armor as well. When you create these panels, and then use them in something else you make, you get the UXP for the FP panels when youuse them inthe new item. Same with metal fasteners, bone armor segments, and MA electronics components.
7. Pick up some scouting skills until you can afford to buy resources.
The best thing to grind on is bone armor, but it's expensive to buy the components for. By picking up some scouting skills, you can get the resources needed to grind together some on your own, and save your cash for harvesters. You'll be able to navigate between your harvesters at a higher speed, camps offer some protection from mobs (they also pay out exp. by the time they are up - so if you are sampling have a camp up).
-----OR-----
Don't grind. I got MA in3 days. I made one of every new schematic as they were granted to me. I made 2 sets of bone armor (one for me one for a RL friend). I make powerups that I use. And a new set of tools at every level that I was granted experimentation points. I sold Fiberplast panels on the market for cash at first, and got UXP every time one of you who didn't want to 'waste' their skill points on Dom arts 1 used them.
Some of you will always grind, fine that must be the way you enjoy playing the game, and it is your choice. Grinding is not necessary to level fast in this game - and you might have more fun if you didn't use my 'tips'.

Really?? I have never noticed that but have to say I never looked close.
How much UXP do we get? Beats me. How can we find out? I guess you could start a stat sheet of your Crafting xp and update the numbers every time ya craft something. That will add another 3 weeks onto your rise to whatever Elite Proffession you are headed toward - but at least you will know that those 20 items you sold gave you a total of 134 UXP - which gave ya that little extra push you'll need to be a Master Architect ![]()
Can't speak for everyone, but I do the grind sometimes. Why do I do it? It's fun? Nope! I hope to reach a decent Elite Proffession before my kids have ta bury my bones? Bingo - that must be the reason![]()
Rumor has it that Crafting XP is 50/50 -- you should get the same amount of XP as Use XP as you did crafting the item, assuming that the person uses the item like it should be. Now, I'm not sure what constitutes "using" -- for example, is a powerup used when it's added to a weapon, when the weapon is fired, or when the powerup runs out? What about armor, or droids, or deeds?
*shrug* My 2 credits . . .
At the end of beta, Holo posted on how exactly UXP works, I wish I had saved it.
Anyway, this is something that the correspondant can figure out for us, if anyone else is interested.

One easy way to jump up from Eng 1 - 4 is to grin while mining steel and make knives. You will reach Eng 4 in a day or 2 easy.
Its the master levels that suck.... any where from 25k - 77k xp to advance. This is where factories and harvesters will help. But it still sucks and takes a long time.
