Just a head's up, the merchant correspondent is calling for a major nerf of the artisan-business tree that will affect a lot of crafters--especially newbies trying to get shops started who already face a hard struggle. He and a few other people with an agenda to force all crafters to use merchant-resellers are calling for the removal of vendors from the entire artisan/business line. The numbers he is supplying are also inaccurate, 2/3rds of the people in the merchant forum were against the nerf.

The quote is here directly from the official forums

"4 - Remove Vendors from the business line.

This is a mixed issue, but the majority (I say 2/3) of the community support this issue. Make NOVICE MERCHANT take General Crafting Exps like some other lines. Remove the vendors (Or put MAJOR restrictions on them) from the BUSS line and replace them with the reduced bazaar fees.
This will make merchants a real class, vs a off-shoot or sub-class.
Makes a Merchant that has to be worked for (Not an Auto skill picked up just by placing a low-end vendor in your locked house.)"

I'm not going to spam this on every profession, but since I'm a tailor I think this is important for our Correspondent to know about and comment on. The merchant correspondent is calling for a major nerf of the artisan-business tree that will affect a lot of crafters--especially newbies trying to get shops started who already face a hard struggle. The serious axe grinders on this issue seem to have anagenda to force all crafters to use merchant-resellersand arecalling for the removal of vendors from the entire artisan/business line.

God knows Merchant is a weak line, but nerfing other people, especially newbies and part time crafters, is not the answer.

I don't care either way, I want to be a merchant so I'm spending points in the merchant line. As anyone who really wants to be a merchant should do. However, the Business line only gets 1 vendor and its generic.. so the problem is? A true merchant can place multiple vendors across multiple shops across multiple planets. Someone in the business line cannot.

Look at ALL the advantages & disadvantages to Merchant vs. Business Artisan before you freak out guys.. I dont see them removing vendors from artisans.

I don't see it either, but people should be aware that the merchant correspondent is officially requesting it. I think it's a terrible idea. The biz3 box is ugly and I couldn't wait to be done with it.

I invite you all to go join us in reading the Mechant Board. This and many ideas are kicked around every day, and I have done a good job repping my community, I have pleased all but one, so I am okay.

The merchant profession needs to be removed from the game and associated abilities used to beef up the artisan business line. The fact that it was included at all was an oversight. The market is not robust enough to support non-productive parasites.

Is that enough of a rebuttal?

Oh, signed Yukon Sam, novice merchant (among other things).

Err, the merchant class *is* a off-shoot sub-class of Artisan/Business in exactly the same way that Tailoring class is an off-shoot sub-class of Artisan/Domestic Arts.

I posted my comments on this in the topic. While I agree that the first vendor is extremely easy to get I do not think it should be removed from the Artisan line. Move it to Business 4 and increase the exp needed maybe or have the Artisan lien vendor have some kinda of limitations

I vote they remove all clothes from the artisan tree. This will make Tailoring a real class and not just a shoot-off. While they're at it, I guess they can remove all the weapons, armor, structures and food.

There's already a call from the Miner partisans to remove surveying abilities as well.
