Ok, im new to the profession. I am MCH now and working on Master Artisan, not for Jedi, but because I want to make a business selling resources. I have be wandering around for days now looking for good concentration areas on many planets. Some i find some i dont.

Here is the question. Is that what Surveying is all about? Wandering around for hours to find nothing? Sorry for the newb question but I was looking for ore for example and didnt find anything over 45%. I found steel at 94 but it was only grinding qualtity. Is there a site as to where things spawn. Or is there a pattern as to what planet has what. I am not in a guild so cant ask for help from others

I am probably asking for too much but any help or pointers would be appreciated

thanks

On our server, 45% ore is around the norm. You'll rarely find anything over 50% (where you can put a harvester down).

Check out www.swgcraft.com. They list the current spawned resources.

Not really any pattern to the spots.

Ore rarely has a concentration of even 60%.

If there is a metal that you know is only grinding material, and you don't want such a metel just don't survey for it. Either check out www.swgcraft.com for some of the current resources. It is up to date as much as people keep it that way. Or you can just sample each one and whatever stats you like wander the planet for that material.

Surveying does take a long time sometimes. 2-3 hours isn't very uncommon if your picky about concentrations.

My general rules

Ore > 55%

Metals >75% usually try for 80%+

Chemicals 85%+

Gas 80-85%+, usually depends on how much I want.

Water 50%+ The last few times I've surveyed for this the cencentrations have been horrible, not sure if that is normal or not.

Flora 85%+

Radioactives 85%+

Those are just rough numbers. It isn't very easy finding all of those but I would estimate 5-10% of the spots for the particular material are above those ranges on a given planet.
