OK, by "Ferrous metal" do they actually mean metals labelled Ferrous or do they mean steel/iron etc ?

The same goes for Non-ferrous, do they mean metals labelled non-ferrous or do they mean aluminium/copper etc ?

All materials have several sub-categories starting at a general type to a specific type.

All materials are either organic and non-organic.

Non-organics are divided into minerals and metals.

Metals are divided into ferrous and non-ferrous.

Ferrous is divided into steel and iron, and non-ferrous is divided into aluminum and copper. Copper is further divided into specific types.

Each of these sub-categories are able to be used in the next level. For example, Erog is a polysteel copper. It can be used when a polysteel copper, copper, non-ferrous, metal or non-organic is called for.

Occasionally there will spawn a resource which is a generic resource, it will fit any slot or above it's named type.

Hope this answers your question.
