If allelse fails or you're just not sure,you could just open a Mineral Survey tool. The start of two of the main trees are Ferrous Metal and Non-Ferrous Metal...

Hmmm. Rust means that it oxidizes. Copper and aluminum oxidize. Aluminum oxidizes faster than any ferrous metal (it's virtually instantaneous).

From (Noah) Webster's "Big Book of Words" (dictionary):
Ferrous: Pertaining to, or derived from, iron; -- especially used of compounds of iron in which the iron has its lower valence; as, ferrous sulphate.
It's a little wrong to think of mining steel, since it's made from iron ore which is mined. Since Steel is derived from iron, it is ferrous. Iron is by definition ferrous. Has nothing to do with oxidation. Wood oxidizes, too (combustion is a form of oxidation) but is non-ferrous ![]()
