Thread: Do you think your Nikes really cost $100 dollars to make?

Seems like a silly question, and I'm not trying to single any one company out...Insert just about any clothing brand into that question if you like.

The answer is No! Not even close! But guess what, Nike knows that the value of its product is much more than the cost of its material/labor and so you know what? They charge their price and they get it!

I know the value of vehicles is much more than just a bunch of metal. I can't cruise along at three times running speed on a few thousand units of steel now, can I? But I sure can if an Artisan crafts that steel into a Swoop Bike!

Vehicle prices will reflect their value. Period. believe what you will, but if you sell your vehicle for less than its worth, it will be resold.

The reason a pair of Nikes doesn't cost $100 to make is because the ones that actually makes them are underpaid third world country people (including children). And then the store that sells the shoes are the last of a long chain of people that each wants to make money (transports, material and so on). This goes for almost everything irl. BUT in SWG most crafters (I belive) doesn't use that many middle hands, infact many get exctract their own resources. Hence they don't need to sell vehicles for example at much more than the material cost.

Aslong as you make money on your prodict overcharging is just being greedy. So what if the person who sells it resells it to someone else? I think it's pretty funny to see people being afraid of competition. Most crafters would love if eveyone sold for the same overpriced cost as everyone else.

Just my 5 cents, you probably didn't mean anything bad with your post, just putting in my opinions here.. hehe

It all boils down to what value you place on your time. No, you don't 'need' to sell your vehicles at more than the resource cost. However if you value the fact that you put time and effort into training yourself up to Master Artisan instead of putting the skill points somewhere else, then you should charge for that. What is 'overcharging' to one person is a fair price to another. As for calling people 'greedy', that's just totally unfounded. Just don't be that person who complains that they can't make any money as an artisan.

some other examples:

Lancer Evolution when released in USA - car 30K dealer mark-up 15K

Pizza joint I delivered for in college costome cost of 2 medium 2 topping pizzas $13.64 acutal cost to compmany of said pizzas including labor 38 cents!!!!!

I don't care if I mine my own resources, If someone is willing to pay me 250K for a swoop I'm going to sell it to them for that much! Go tell Donald Trump that you were offered 150K for an x-34 but you felt guilty getting that much for it so you sold it for your cost of 25K - I bet he'd slap you!
