Thread: Bikes better than 89%

With Publish 13 I picked up Master Artisan finally, and my guildmates were all excited since I can now supply them with thespeederbikes they so desperately need if the nightsisters are going to continue their target practice.

I picked up some steel and aluminum that had 925 and 918 SR respectively, and went to work. (I'm new to this artisan stuff so please bear with me.) The initial output was 25%, and I experimented up to 89%. All the boxes were filled and I had experimentation points left over. I got great success every time.

I did a search here in the forum, and I found a few references on how toimprove things,it seemsthat I need clothing tapes that total +25 so I can be a 14-point artisan, and may need to become Force-sensitive and work those trees up.

I picked this up from a post from last September:

4) The +experimentation skill mod (both from skill boxes and tapes) improves your chances of success when experimenting (in addition to giving an experimentation point for every +10). You can also improve your success chances with better tools, stations, being in a research center player city, FS experimentation skills, or drinking Bespin Port. For most items, experimenting with 3-4 points at a time gives you mostly great success (at least at Master level).

Should I pick up a droid with a station installed and go to a research city to work on items?

I'm not sure what the difference is between an 89% Swoop and a 97% Swoop aside from an extra 120 hit points. Does the higher % mean it decays at a slower rate?

Extra skill points or force sensitive skills wont help you here im afraid . To get over 89% you will need to get some slightly better resources to craft with.

Decay rate is constant, no matter what your vehicle's HAM is. So yeah, a higher % just gives you more hitpoints.

Extra experimentation is not going to help you craft better swoops. Extra exp points only help on multi-experimentation line products, like bone armor (woo hoo!). Since bikes are single-line experimentation, more than 10 exp won't do you any good.

The final experimentation percentage is controlledby the quality of your resources. With your resources, you should be gettingabout 91%. I'm not sure why you aren't. Are you sure you're looking at the SR stat for those numbers you gave? I have 999 SR Steel and 884 SR alum and I end up with 96% swoops.

I think the final experimentation % formula for swoops is something like the following, but it never works out perfectly:

((.20 x Non-Ferrous SR value) + (.80 x Ferrous SR value)/10) - 1.5.

Why they have the -1.5 (or thereabout)adjuster in there, I'll never know, but withoutthat adjuster, and withmy materials, I should get the following: ((.20 x 884) + (.80 x 999))/10 = 97.6%

BUT, I don't. My swoops are 96% with those materials.

With your materials, you should get: ((.20 x 918) + (.80 x 925))/10 = 92.4%, but you're not. You're getting 89%. Almost seems like you're getting at LEAST a-2.5 adustment. Maybe the downward adjustment scales based on the SR value of your materials? Who knows?

Either way, the only way to get that final % higher, is to get materials with a higher SR value.

If the initial output was at 25%, you might have had a "good success" instead of a "great success" while assembling the Swoop.

I'd imagine with 925 and 918SR metals, you'd be starting with about 27%, not 25%. That 2% difference would account for why you had an 89% Swoop and not a 91%.

Try it again, and make sure your results are always "great" or better.

I've noticed that when I end up with leftover experimentation points I most likely had a "good" success somewhere in the process. Otherwise, I spend 'em all pretty much.

Good luck!

Thank you all for those responses.

I was very careful to find SR over 900, since checking the schematics that is all that was checked. I'll keep plugging away, and I think I will get a droid and fly over to Heavenly Island (which is a Research Center player city) for the increased chance of success.

Oh, also another question. There seems to be some debate about how many Experimentation points to use per attempt. Some posters said 3-4, others said use as many as possible. Has there been a definitive answer on this issue?

On bikes, use them all at once.

If your experimentation bar is completely filled when you're done experimenting then your bikes are as good as they're going to get with those materials. Even if you get an amazing assembly it still won't make any difference in the end; it will just mean that you start your experimentation process witha greater number of boxes already filled.

And I agree with the previous poster, use all of your boxes at once for bikes.

Interesting. I've easily made bikes in the high '90s without a lot of the more extreme efforts. No +artisan Exp. clothing, etc.

Good resources and a little luck is all I needed.

So besides the SR990+ Steel/Iron im guessing you were using one of those wonderful shipwright coppers? I have Doxe Copper on Bloodfin with SR951 that I never used for a swoop but i guess i should just to see if i could match yours.

Actually, I used some SR995 Perovskitic Aluminum and 997 Kammris Iron.

Even had an experimentation point left over.

I have a 1000 SR copper, just waiting to get 1000 SR ferrous to make my "perfect bike"...though I'm not sure its worth the wait...
