Thread: Having trouble surving trips, any tips?

I'm a Mon Calamari Artisan. As such I'm not very strong. I'm getting killed trying to find good mineral concentrations a few clicks from the cities. Do I just need armor? Is there any other way to strengthen my defenses? I'm new to all this and I haven't spent much time in combat as I want to concentrate on building and surveying. I need to set up some extractors but a mutant womp-rat can kill me in about 3 hits and I can't run away because it stuns me. Any tips?

One thing you might want to do is pick up Novice Scout, just for one special ability - you can tell the difference between Aggressive and Non-Aggressive critters. The aggressive ones are red dots on radar, the others are yellow. Also, be sure your radar is set to 128m so you can see them coming. If you do these things, it's usually pretty easy to avoid combat.
I figure every character should pick up at least Novice Marksman too, just for a bit more self-defense capability if nothing else (plus, even if you're not a combat type, it can be fun to indulge in it every once in a while.)
And don't forget F5 Burst Run, which can be a lifesaver.

I have been grouping with a marksman in exchange for free weapons and power ups he has been killin off the aggressors while I survey, it's been pretty lucritive so far we do missions and I survey while he kills stuff off occasionally I will shoot at some of the critters with him, we both get money from the runs and I have found some REALLY good resource locs (and marked them of course).

resources get depleated from time to time.. so.. your marks will be useless soon.

Another advantage to the scout line is that somewhere in that skill tree (I don't remember where) you gain mask scent. As an anarmouredcharacter trying to mine, the mask scent ability comes in handy. It doesn't make you invisible nor does it work 100 % of the time, but it does help sneak past lairs without getting attacked all the time (and you gain more scout xp everytime it works). It makes it much easier to sneak in and service a harvester that is already placed if some creatures are nearby. I havesurveyed or minedunbuffed, unarmoured, and without a bodyguard on dantooine, endor, and lok; and mask scent has cut down on the number of my trips to the cloning centers. It won't replace having some TK masters riding shotgun for you, but it's a lot cheaper.

Try to get Exploration 2 for mask scent. Add BE pants and shirt for +25 to MS and good Jawa beer for another +17.
Also wear helmet, boots, gloves and chest plate, which you should be able to wear unbuffed (might have to migrate your stats a bit, though). These 4 items give almost full coverage, which will allow you to make a quick escape if needed. Put the /mount icon in your toolbar, so you can get on your vehicle quickly.
Might want to look into a tank droid or BE pet - target yourself and tell the pet to guard you.
My major problem is not the aggros, but the amount of space taken up by their lairs......

- A combat droid can pull agro from you so you can get away, as can a pet.
- A good kinetic armor is always good as well. Chitin or Ubese is cheap and low HAM normally.
- You may want to consider keeping some Neutron Pixie Spice Buff on the hotbar to boost your stats till you can escape.
- If you're going to be hitting a place like Lok or Dantooine, grab a buff. Currently, buffs let you take hit after hit, but use armor too.
- Hire someone to tank for you. Also good for clearing critters off of good spawn sites so you can drop a harvester.

While you are out surveying, shoot anything that moves, that way you might loot the new NECRO POSTER! Lol
