Hi all, just wanted to drop the artisan board a line while I'm waiting for the server issue to get ironed out. In the meantime, I was fortunate enough to participate in beta 3 and hence have some experience with the crafting system, and as artisan as a professionin general. So, if any of you have any questions about anything- getting started, how something works, what to look for, etc etc, feel freeto leave a reply here and I'll try to answer as best I can. Good luck getting signed in, and I'll see you all in game. For those of you on Bloodfin (or at least aiming for it), I'll be bringing my armorsmith, Agitack Eilokkek, back from the beta. Feel free to drop me a line in game. Later.

Well since you did the beta ...any suggestion as to race for an artisan/scout? I plan on doing the artisan thing first and adding in scout later. Just wondering if any particular race would be "better" for this setup than any other.

P.S. I will NOT be Human

While Humans and Mon Calimari both have crafting bonuses in certain areas as racial bonuses, Bothans have scouting bonuses and perform exceptionally well in surveying, especially if you adjust their stats before beginning play to favor stamina and willpower.

I was thinking of being a kind of oddball Wookie Artisan/Scout. I know that a Wookie would do better in a melee type class (creature handler or something like that due to racial bonuses) but I just want to see how they do. Stat migration and all that ya know. Any of you try this out in beta?

I would highly recommend not waiting to get scout. Start as artisan and get novice scout right away. It will cost you only 100 credits which can easily be made by running delivery missions.

Unless you want to completely avoid fighting, I'd also get novice marksman right away (another 100 credits). This way you can do some kill of weaker creatures (marksman helps here) and harvest from the dead. (that's a scout skill). You can then use the creature materials to craft with.

You can always give up skills later on, if you run out of "learning capacity". The 200 credits needed to get both of these will be very wisely spent.

Krondar - I'm not too sure how Wookies would work as far as an artisan goes. Sure, you can be anything you like with whichever race you like, but some have slight advantages towards the artisan path over others. If memory serves, the two main races that get bonuses to artisan skills are human nad Mon Cal, as was stated earlier. I think Rodians may get a minor bonus, as well. Humans, if memory serves, get a +10 or +15 to artisan experimentation, while Mon Cal get a+10 (I'm pretty sure, someone pelase correct if not) to weapon assembly. Incidentally, all these values are listed out on the race selection portion of your character creation process. Basically, the bonuses add an extra tier of advancement to the race for artisan. As you progress thru the artisan skill tiers, you gain bonuses to the different aspects of the profession; experimentation, etc. These race bonuses just give you a little head start. So, if you're willing to forego these extra points, any other race can potentially be just as successful in the artisan path as any other. Provided you migrate the stats properly, though. Hope this helps, and good luck!
