Thread: Maybe a newbie question but here goes...
I got to play for about 30 minutes before I had to go to work, and I got a chance to go survey/sample before having to log. My question is when you pull up the survey tool you see a whole bunch of stuff in a tree view. I looked for "minerals" but there were a whole bunch of things listed under those, I eventually mined some gems, which were listed under minerals, but have heard that these are useless. What qualifies as a "mineral" when you go to make something with "mineral" as a req in the schematic? I would have just tried this myself, but I had to go to work before I had enough resources to build anything.
Thanks
However... there are some materials that will work better than others. I didn't have enough time in Beta to figure this out for myself, but there are some metals that work better for crafting weapons than others. Check the properties of the resources by taking a sample and choosing "Examine" from the radial menu for the resource container that you'll find in your inventory.
Experiment, make different types of items, and find out what works best.
Good luck,

First of all, no minerals or materials are useless. Gems (Amorphic) are used in crafting grenades at a higher level, no other minerals will work in that slot.
When you first start crafting, the types of minerals and qualities don't matter that much but when you want to make very high quality items you need to do some research...
For ex., almost all weapons want metal with HIGH CONDUCTIVITY. If you examine the metal, you see the list of stats ranging from 0 -1000. The better guns will be made out of metal that has CONDUCTIVITY at 750+, 900+ even better damage, etc. Different weapons and different components call for a different stat, the schematics will tell you what is important to that particular item.
