Thread: Resources Static or Random Quality / Statistics
No the resources are random the quality of that vien of iron is just that spot and will only be there till it runs out.
The stats are tied to the name upon creation. You will not find the same resource name having diffrent stats.
The statistics on a particular resource will always be the same, no matter which planet is found on (many metals are found on multiple planets).
The resource locations are randomly generated when the servers come up for the first time. They do not change unless there is specifically a resource wipe, or the resource becomes depleted.
Resource depletion will cause a resource to completely disappear from a planet, and (allegedly) cause a new resource of the same general category (steel, fiberplast, etc.) to respawn on that planet with random concentrations again.
Maintaining a database of resource concentrations and locations would be difficult, but, assuming that "extinct" resources could possibly resurface after some resource cycling, a database of resource statistics could prove handy.
Hope this helps.
Also, according to what the devs have said, once a named resource disappears, it will never appear again. So, for example, there was a type of copper on Ahazi called Fogatium. It was a Mythra Copper with fairly good stats. Now we certainly would have seen more types of Mythra Copper show up (if beta hadn't ended

"Dudium Iron" mined on Corellia has the same stats as "Dudium Irom" mined on Lok.

But "Dudium Iron" will eventually run out. I think resources last 2-3 weeks before they vanish from the galaxy to be replaced by another one with different attributes.
So, to answer the original question -- you can maintain a database, but each entry will only be good for 3-6 weeks (it is a longer period because people horde the good resources and then sell them once they disappear). So things will be "interesting."

To add to this, asI've said I had a excel sheet of all the available resources on Corellia during beta. I didn't have concentrations in it, (I kept a thick list of waypoints, tho), but I had all the stat data in there.
Would you mind providing the list that you had? I was trying to create something for myself, but I couldn't get a structure that I liked. I'd love to use yours as a jumping off point.
All resources with a specific name, for example Trihiasie, will have the same exact stats and can be stacked on each other. Each planet will have its own unique set of resources. Each specific resource type (for example Mythra Copper, which is what Trihiasie is) will have similar stats, but not the same, so they will not be stackable.
Resources shift around every once in awhile. **edit** later. In this way, some resources can eventually run out.
