Thread: Why I macro and grind
My CDEF weapons and powerups are still selling. I guess I'm lucky. I haven't started harvesters yet. I don't macro sample either. I just sit there with a book and read while I'm sampling. And if I'm out of town I stay away from reds.
The artisan profession is like a real life profession. Too many and no one will be able to sell their goods. If you're really not enjoying the character. Make a different one on another server. I balance the monotony with a Marksman/Scout on a different server.

I actually enjoy sampling. When it works as it is supposed to.
The concetrations being highest in the cities..kind of makes sense..in a real world simulation.Where better to build a city than where the resources are? In practice and for GAMING purposes however this is very frustrating.
Not to mention being told that there is 40% of some iron, chase it find 41...42...43 etc up to 89...96%!!!!!! Then going to sample and being told the density is too low for sampling.
The putting a harvester down to find out the next two hours later the resources changed....this is no small wasted investment...not by any stretch of the imagination.
The original poster made alot of valid points IMHO. The fact that people are selling their items for so low, is ridiculous. I understand the desire to be fair, and to undercut the competition, but at some point an artisan is going to want to make some money that is representative of the time invested in the crafting of the item.
I am at engIII, but what I have been doing is saving every resource I find in my saftey deposit box at the bank. When I get thousands of all my favored resources I will begin a few days worth of crafting.
I will of course be labled a powergamer because this method will help me reach EngIV rather quickly, and I may not sell all of the items I create. Trial and error is what craftsmanship is all about in this galaxy. The GOOD stuff I make, which won't be much as ENGIV cannot make the items people want, will be put on the market for a good price. A price that I feel reflects the time I put into it, yet I can promise no one will buy them.
I made it to Engineering IV and Survey IV without a macro and without "grinding". Here's how you do it - go and find a metal and a chemical with HIGH overall quality ratings. You have to search hard for this - go to different planets and so on. Find them and sample them. Don't use a macro - just migrate your stats to action and type /sample. It goes for a long time, and you get a few hundred resources, and remember weapon powerups only take 6 metal and 4 chemical.
Now, go and find a weapon crafting terminal. Craft weapon powerups (muzzles especially, once you have them), and experiment on them. Keep only the best ones you make (or save the other ones, whatever). Sell the really good quality ones on the bazaar for competitive rates.
When you get enough xp, you can play around with harvesters, but they're expensive and take up lots of your time.
What I described above seems like grinding, but it's not. What else would there be to the life of a pure crafter or surveyor? Nothing!
The only other thing to break up the monotony is to talk with other people, and try to sell your good powerups person-to-person. It's actually fun, and what the game's all about. If you don't actually like crafting and surveying, then find something else to do in the game.
Annoying. Just got home and noticed that the system dumped about 1/3 of my diatribe.
On Bria / Tatooine.
In other words, grinders. People who don't intend to sell their items, just crank and crank and crank worthless items so they can complete a part of the game that's supposed to take months in a matter of days.
So, wanna buy my (x-number-of) pieces of Bone Armour?ÃÂ How about my (y-number-of) CDEF weaponry?ÃÂ Or my (z-number-of) weapon power-ups?
I'd LOVE to sell my stuff.ÃÂ But there's a little rule that says I can't.
The rule is - I can't compete with ex-Betas, friends of ex-Betas, guildmates of ex-Betas.ÃÂ I don't have the detailed knowledge that they got from being in the Beta.ÃÂ I can't optimally craft things that will get my skills up as fast as possible.ÃÂ I don't have lots of people showering me with all the raw materials I need to build whatever's necessary.ÃÂ I don't have a ready-made market, the instant I got into the game, to take every item I crafted and get me that UXP.ÃÂ (There are people well on their way to Master Weaponsmith while I'm still struggling to get Engineering 4.ÃÂ And let's not even think about Dom 2 or Business 1.)
I have none of that.ÃÂ What I *do* have is armour I have to give away, because people won't buy bone armour for anything vaguely resembling the effort I put into it.ÃÂ I *do* have CDEF weapons that do 55 to 56 points damage that everyone and his mouse droid raises their nose at.ÃÂ I *do* have weapon powerups that I can dump on the bazaar and will never be seen again (and cost me more money to do that).
Further, when the highest concentration of wind power's sitting directly in the middle of Bestine, what use is a wind generator?ÃÂ I've got to hike a kilometre out of town, down to where it's 30% payoff, in order to set up a generator.ÃÂ And I can't just let it run down a bit before putting in cash, I have to start it off with a massive cash infusion (gained from selling my bone armour, I suppose?) because the girbils insideÃÂare on strike now for pay-before-play.
There are massive amounts of raw materials that are absolutely impossible toÃÂcollect with harvesters, because they're inside city limits.ÃÂ Or there's so many harvesters already placed that I can't put my rinkydink personal harvester down anywhere.ÃÂ Macroing is the *only* way I can cost-effectively (joke, I can't sell, so how can it be cost-effective?) get raw materials.ÃÂ AND I run the risk of dying while doing it.ÃÂ When's the last time your harvester got
