Thread: Cost of operation, and how?
Last night I had nothing else to do so I sat down outside my little droid workshop on the step to sample some additional Metal for my droids, As Mouser was chirping away behind me I got to thinking, Exactly how much will it take me to run my operation, and why had I not thought about this before? So I pulled out my data pad and did some quick math...
Four Harvesters(2Mineral,1Chemical,1Flora) at 720 credits a day: 4*720=2,880 credits/day.
Times 7 days in a standard Tatooineweek: 2,880*7=20,160credits/week
One Wind Generator at 1240 credits a day, time 7 standard Tatooine days: 1240*7=8,680 credits/week
One Small House Rent at 420 credits a day w. Vendor at 100 a day.: 420+100=520*7=3,640 credits/week
for a grand total of: 20,160+8,680+3,640=(32,480credits/standard week.)
I thought almost 32 and a half thousand credits just to keep this place running, how are other crafters able to make that much money in a week and still get any amount of skill gain? I could see if that would be the total cost of two weeks but thats incredible, then I got to think, in an average 4 week month, I pay 129,920credits just to run a generator, 4 harvesters, and keep my house upkept. Can no one else see that thats a very high number? and if you can and don't see anything wrong with spending almost 130K credits in a month, and in some peoples cases its even more cause they have more harvestors/generators than me.
The whole point I was trying to get at is not that costs of upkeep are too high, it's too demanding. Before the vise patch to sample and harvesters I made sure to keep my harvestors powered, and at least above 85%, At Least,so as to avoid a flaming hulk in the middle of nowhere. What I am trying to say is keep the power need as it is, I myself thought something very badly needed to be done about that, I even thought letting PA's have huge fields of harvesters jsut burning was a joke. I would be very happy if harvesters would continue to work below 100% but on a sliding effectiveness scale. Its not very realistic to say if something is not at 100% it won't work at all but it shouldn't produce as much as it would if it were, until at a point in busts down and needs to be fixed.
Sorry for the long Data post but I just had to know how many people have actualy done the math for one weeks opperation and howyou can keep up with it and or how long you plan on keeping up with it.
In little over an hour I sold over 7,000 credits worth of just aluminum.. Still have over 10k in my inventory so I guess I know what I'll be selling today when I get back on
I maintain a house with vendor, 5 harvesters (2 mineral, 1 chemical, 1 natural gas and 1 wind), and a factory.I spend a little over7,000 credits a day on maintenance. If I sell 3 micro sensor suites (or any other component that I can make). This covers my costs and anything else I sell is profit. I also do a 3 or 4 destroy missions just in case business is slow and because doing crafting can get a little boring. Thisgives me the hance to have some fun adventuring andincrease my combat skills. If I didn'tsell anything on the bazaar or from my vendor then the missions allow me to still break even. This hasn't happened yet, I've sold enough to make each day to cover my costs and to make a profit.
The problem is that you need something that you can sell and market. If you're a droid engineer then you probably won't be able to sell mouse droids since everyone can make them. Try selling droid storage compartments to architects who are building private crafting stations. This will get you credits especially if the other droid engineers aren't doing this. If you're an architect and you can't sell a small house, try selling power core units to a droid engineer. If you you can't sell any item that you can craft, sell resources.
Youshould be able to find something that you can sell to cover your expenses, it just takessome doing especially if people are flooding the market with cheap goods. As you get the better at craftingand the economy stabilizes, you can cover your entire maintenance with one sale (ie sellProbot for 30k and you're set for the week). Hope this helps.
