Thread: Formula for crafting.

Let's say I want to craft a Food and chemical crafting tool. In the schematic it says Experimental Durability / Decay Resistance: 100% and Experimental Effectiveness / Conductivity: 100%. I understand that I want to use resource with high values in this two stats. What I don't understand is how they determine the base percentages before experimentation. Does anyone know how those percentages are generated and/or if there are any modifiers?

I read an artisan guide which talked about getting "good Success", "great Success", etc... before experimenting when you first craft the item. But, when I craft an item I only get successes after I experiment. Am I missing something or was that something that was removed from the game.

Thanks

The modifiers for the initial Effectiveness (we'll ignore durability since age doesn't seem to affect crafting tools) are: the conductivity of your resources, and a random "success" type (great/moderate/amazing). These success types are applied during the initial creation right after selecting resources and(at least in my opinion)on each experimentation *point* used, not each "run experiment". I believe that if you use three points in one experiment, each of those can succeed/fail individually, but the message displayed is only for one (probably the last). This is why you can sometimes see stats get worse on a "succeeded" message or better on "failed".

The odds of the various successes are based on a combination of your Artisan (or specialization) Assembly skill and the item complexity. This is displayed as the "Risk" on the experimentation window, and should also be used in the initial creation. A high Assembly skill on a simple item would lead to more and better successes. A low Assembly skill and higher complexity would reduce the chances of the better succeses and increase the chance of failures (especially criticals). Once you hitnovice in anartisan elite class (weapon/armor smith, DE, chef, tailor) this is especially noticable since the complexity is higher than artisan items, but you have to use a new Assembly skill which only starts with 20 points.

There are rumors (but hard data is slowly accumulating) that the Effectiveness of the crafting tool you useand the Crafting stationis also taken into account for either the odds of success type or the initial percentage.

One thing I did notice isnow that I have recrafted my crafting tool from -11 effectiveness to +8 I have considerably less failures although I haven't noticed an increase in any of the percentages when crafting.

On another note, is there a way to be able to see what type of success you get right after you insert the resources?

It should be included on the details window you get right after hitting "assemble" from the resource selection screen. IIRC, it's between the item details in the top half (where you get the item picture and stats) and the initial experimentation percentages at the bottom. I'm being a bad employee today, posting from work so I can't check in game.
