I'm a brand new novice weaponsmith. What should I primarily be grinding xp with that would be most efficient?

Any order of items?

Projectile pistol barrels and sword cores are probably your best bet for now. When you get to expert firearms you can do advanced barrels for 160xp, but that will take some special resources.

I also did Pistol barrels at Novice, then switched to Rifle barrels at intermediate. That's working great for me so far.
