Hi there.

I am new to the Artisan profession and am finding it hard to make money so I can make and maintain harvesters.

I tried to do a mission at the Artisan mission terminals but I have no clue how to complete one. Can someone shed some light on how to do one of these of provide me with a link so I can read up on it?

Thank you.

You have to check what amount of percentage you mission want. See in the uperleft coner of your mission discription. Then you need to go out and survey. I surveyed a lot so if you give the type of your mission (gas, metal, etc) and the percentage mayby I can give you some coordinates. And if you do not have the right survey tool I also can provide that. If we are on the same server and planet.

I am on Shadowfire.

If I gather the resource requested, where do I go to complete the mission?

Usually the mission says Unknown Planet. I have been trying to do these from Anchorhead, Tatooine.

Let's say it tells me to get a 55 quality sample. Just what does that mean?

As you can tell, I' m really new to this.

First, when you pick up Novice Artisan, make yourself a "Survey Tool" for one type. Clock on it and set the distance, then click on it again to open it, look at all the types of things you can "survey" for using that tool.

Now, check the Artisan Missions for a resources of that type and accept the mission, it will give you a percentage of "concentration" you have to find, which means in a sense how much fast the resources can be pulled up from that spot

Use the Survey tool, trying to find that specific resource numerous times, until you see any % on the screen that comes up from the Survey Tool. Then just always head towards the highest number on the screen, and hopefully it will continue to raise higher and higher as you click the "Survey Resources" button continuously until you get the percentage you are looking for, the mission will auto-complete at that point if I remember correctly.

I hope that helps.

Thank you. That makes a lot more sense now.

I can't remember but I don't recall the missions asking for anything more specific than just metal. I don't think I saw one with something like 45% (Wakeb) steel.

Does it normally specify the type, of that kind, of resource or only that you need to find any 45% concentration.

Again I thank you. It's nice to have folks offer a hand.

Low-level survey missions only ask you to find "gas", "metal", or "ore". Higher level missions (which pay better)have more specific materials: "Ferrous Metal", "Reactive Gas", "Liquid Petrochem", "Crystalline Gemstone"etc.

For reasons unknown to mere mortals, the difficulty of the survey missions is determined by your skill with your equipped weapon. If you have the 4th skill for that weapon from Marksman/Brawler (i.e. 1-handed IV, Pistols IV, Rifle IV, etc), you start seeing the second-tier survey missions. I'm not sure if there's any more above that, I'm still working my way through fencer.

You do occasionally get the higher-level missions from NPCs, even if you don't have the weapon skill to get those missions from a terminal.

Don't take ore missions. And many times there are veins of various chemicals or gases right within a city. Find something that is 70% or more right next to a shuttle station. Then go to another city and find out what is 70% or more in that city. Then keep taking the shuttle between those two cities. You complete the mission when you survey (not sample) whatever you take the mission for, as long as the survey % is at or above the mission requirement. So you get the mission, take shuttle, survey, collect mission money, go to mission terminal, get another mission, etc. You can do two missions about every ten minutes that way. Keep refreshing the mission screen until you get the mission you need (gas, metal, chemical) for a good price. Maximum payout is 900 credits per mission. That's 1800 credits for two missions, minus the shuttle ticket.

Correction: maximum payout is 1800 per mission. Pick up a few skill boxes in an elite combat class and watch your payoffs double.

If you happen to be grinding an elite crafting profession, this makes a perfect way for you to stockpile cash in the process, since you're making at least (mission payout * 2) credits every ten minutes, and most of the ten minutes is spent waiting for shuttles (an ideal setting for some good solid grinding)as opposed to running through hostile wildernesses. Survey missions in large part funded my rise to master weaponsmith.

I stand corrected. Maximum payout for the advanced mission is 1800 credits each, and for the regular missions is 900 credits each. Need advanced weapons skills to get the advanced missions.

Was assuming that person asking didn't have weapons skills, and should have just stated the above. I'm bad about making assumptions. Thanks for catching that.
