For macros, try the search feature on this forum or head over to http://swg.allakhazam.com/and check their game guides.
As for xp, the general rule is xp = 2x the amount of resources used + 5% in practice mode. Most everything will get you xp at the same rate. Just find something that you have resorces for.
Having said that, I recently ground artisan with simple shirts from the domestic arts tree.

The best thing I found to craft was either Crafting Tools, or Muzzles.
As to macros, see above post.
Once you are able to make Harvesters, make those. You get like 300 xp per craft. Anything else (including Crafting Tools and Muzzles) gives you no more than 40 xp per craft at best.

You can make personal harvesters (mineral, wind, and....flora?) at Eng III. You need a specialized crafting tool (it's supposed to be a "structural" tool, but you can get by with a "weapon, droid, and general item" tool), 110 general metal, 60 steel, 50 ore, 15 aluminum, and 15 non-ferrous metal. I generally use just aluminum and steel, using the aluminum in the non-ferrous slot and whichever one I havea larger stack of in the "metal" slot.
