It's also helpful to know that as a new artisan, the only 3 items that you can get missions for are Metal, Ore and Gas.

As your levels increase, you will be able to get jobs for differrent resources and the more specific the resource, the more you get paid.

No worries...I'm a noob and had the same problem. THe mission will giveyoua number. You have to survey untill you find a concentration that equals/exceeds that number. You don't have to dig, it will automatically pass the mission once you've successfully surveyed.

One more thing. The location you find has to be 1024m away from the mission terminal.

....... at least 1024m away, that's what I meant to say.

That's crazy talk! The men in white coats will be coming to take you away shortly. Troublemaker.

THEY'LL NEVER CATCH ME! I've got my fort of couch cushions, my tin foil beanie with the propellor on top, and this cute little half-gremlin / half-labrador is going to defend me to its death. It told me so, although I had to record it's strange and beautiful language (I think it's a mix of Swahili, ancient Aztec and Pig Latin) to get it translated by the glowing lights that live under my toilet tank.

....

Um, sorry, I've been spending too much time reading the death spiral of SWG discussion. They're getting weird. But I've taken my pretty yellow pills, I'm much better now.

A couple more nuances:

1) You have to be standing on the spot with the concentration at or above what's in the mission. So if you're looking for a 68% metal spot, standing on a 66% spot but gettting a waypoint to a 70% in your survey tool isn't quite enough. Go stand at the point with the waypoint marker and survey again.

2) The difficulty levels of the survey missions are still (I think) tied to weapon skill. You don't get the higher-paying missions with the specific resource types until you have a 4th level combat skill (Pistols IV, Unarmed IV, Polearms IV, etc) and get the mission while you have that type of weapon equipped. Or have they fixed this so mission difficulty is based on, oh let's throw out a ludicrous suggestion, Survey skills?

Some NPCs give survey missions, and you can occasionally get the higher-level ones from them without any combat skills.
