Good day, Thank you for visiting my message.
I have been an Artisan for a few days now and I was curious about a few things.
Question 1: I noticed that there was a droid designing area of specialization. Can I make droids for sale? Can I make droids to protect me while I survey for resources or if I'm out hunting. If I sell a droid to someone, can they make the droid defend them (provided that I designed the droid for war)?
Question 2: Has anyone noticed anything wrong with the Gas surveying device? I used it several times and it worked fine, but then all of a sudden it wouldn't scan anymore, and nothing would show up in the screen for quantity percentages. And when I tried to take a sample (of gas) it kept saying that I couldn't sample while the device was surveying.
Question 3: Who makes vehicles? I know I've seen speeder bikes and land speeders. But I wanted to know who makes them, who fixes them, can an Artisan make or fix them?
Question 4: Why does my list of survey-able resources keep changing. I used to be able to survey for a copper called KOVI, but now it never shows up in my list of resources that I can survey.
Question 5: (Not really an Artisan question) Can I sort my inventory. Mine is a mess. I have a billion different types of resources and they are all over the place. Is there any way I can put some order to my inventory?
Thats about all I can think of right now. I really appreciate any answers that anyone can give me. Thank you very much.

Thank-you for being kind enough to phrase it so well. I'll answer these to the best of my ability.
I have been an Artisan for a few days now and I was curious about a few things.
Question 1: I noticed that there was a droid designing area of specialization. Can I make droids for sale? Can I make droids to protect me while I survey for resources or if I'm out hunting. In order to craft droids you'll have to do the Engineering line of the Artisan tree and then learn Novice Droid Engineer. After that you'll be able to craft droids, and eventually install combat modules in them so they canguard you.
I've not used my Gas survey device for awhile now, so I don't know if any bugs have shown up in it, and my other tools work fine. I can think of two reasons the survey device wouldn't display information
1. You died so many times it decayed to 0% (a condition you can only check when cloning)
2. You are not on a high enough concentration of a gas for it to read anything
When you sample, you should wait for a couple of seconds after the survey, otherwise it might think you're still surverying and give you the message you reported.
Question 3: Who makes vehicles? I know I've seen speeder bikes and land speeders. But I wanted to know who makes them, who fixes them, can an Artisan make or fix them?
Master Artisans can craft all the vehicles. They are able to be repaired at any NPC Garageor Player City Garage. (I believe there is a /find garage command, or you can always check the planetary map)
Question 4: Why does my list of survey-able resources keep changing. I used to be able to survey for a copper called KOVI, but now it never shows up in my list of resources that I can survey.
The resourcesshift from time to time. Sometimes a resource will be on the server for a few weeks, other times it's in and out in a couple of days. This makes it so people with harvesters have to move them every once in awhile.
Question 5: (Not really an Artisan question) Can I sort my inventory. Mine is a mess. I have a billion different types of resources and they are all over the place. Is there any way I can put some order to my inventory?
There are a couple of ways to sort your inventory. If you want to be sure everything is in its proper place you should probably invest in some packs or satchels. You can name these after the types of resources you have in them. For example I orgainize with: "Chemical" "Non-ferrous" "Ferrous" "Gas" "Doc Flora" and"Flora" These will take up room in your inventory, but it really helps cut down on the clutter. I do the same basic thing to ogranizemy store houses/factories.
A second way to look at your inventory is by clicking "Change View" at the bottom of your inventory. This will give you a list of your items with descrations ratherthan the default item pictures. It doesn't help sort the inventory any, but it's nice if you're scanning descriptions.
Thats about all I can think of right now. I really appreciate any answers that anyone can give me. Thank you very much.
I hope this helped you some. If there's anything else you need to know, give me a shout through the boards' PM system or just make another post out here. There are always people willing to help!![]()

I'll answer whatever I can...
Q1: Sure, you can make droids for sale (given that you have a means to sell them), and yes, they can be used for self-defense. The self-defense part is also true if you are not a DE, though a DE can use more droids, boosting their effectiveness.
Q2: I haven't looked for Gas in a while
Q3: To make a vehicle, you need Master Artisan (with the possible exception of the AV21, I've never seen a schematic). To fix them, you need a vehicle garage. If it's disabled, throw it away, it can't be fixed.
Q4:Resources change so people can't simply put a harvester in one spot and leave it there forever. Some resource types aren't seen often and are critical for certain professions. You learn to deal with it ... if a resource has just appeared, you should have a week or more.
Q5 Try "Change View" ... and get used to a messy inventory anyway. Also, try setting up to craft something that needs the resource you'd like to check, you can reduce the list that way.

Most everything has been answered adequately but I'll throw a couple of things out there.
1) Droid engineers can make the droid, but you'll have to be a little more advanced in skill. At an early stage, you should probably look to buy a droid (or a good LVL 10 trained pet) for protection until you could build your own. Droids can be programmed by anyone, but a creature handler is required to train a pet.
2) That could be a bug or it could be that there's not a high enough concentration of what you're looking for.
3) A master artisan can make the AV-21 but it is not a 'permanent' schematic. It requires a looted schematic as well as a looted component. If you have these two parts (and some metal) they can be made.
4) The resources to be surveyed change from planet to planet also. Something available on one planet will not necessarily be available on another planet and your tool will adjust to only show items available on the planet you're on.
5) After you click on the "change view" button, you can click on the column heading button and it will sort alphabetically by either name or type. There's not much sense in sorting by icon or volume. If you click the heading button again, it will reverse the order (A-Z / Z-A). If you click "change view" again, it will go back to the normal display but retain its sort order. ...temporarily at least.

Droid Engineers CANNOT use more droids than anyone else and we don't have any mods to their use. SOE is reserving that for Droid Commander in the iffy future. The only edge I have is that I can make em and break em w/o it costing me a fortune.
That said. A Combat Probat is more than enough protection for a novice artisan surveying in relatively safe areas. It wont help you on Dath at all but on Tat it does a good job. Just stay away from Krayts.
