Movie realities aside, the primary reason I heard for not making combat from vehicle mounts possible was because it would be far too easy to kite anything in the game that way. I can stay away from a kimo/gorax/rancor/graul all day long while on a swoop - if I could shoot from the bike I'd be able to kill them eventually too...which I haven't an artisans-chance-in-hell of doing now.
Speed ins't an issue I've seen discussed at any length, but it would be fun to have a really fast vehicle out there for transport purposes only...but I suppose that's what the shuttles are for.

Unofrtunately,
You can only compare the game to the movies to a point. Afterall, the ewoks in ROTJ had zippers on their backs. The ones in the game don't

Thisseems to be th eonly forum that swoops would be the appropriate subject so, here goes:
For those who watched ROTJ, E 6, you must have seen how fast they went. In all realism, bikes in galaxies are sluggish and slow. Please make them faster, like they really are in Star Wars. They were also able to "respond to attack' while on the bikes. Those bikes actually had guns. The scout trooper shot back at Leia with the blaster pistol.

Well, with planets being so tiny (15km x 15km), swoops have enough speed already. That and I remember them saying when vehicles were first released that they increased vehicle speed too much more, the server wouldn't be able to update in time.
