I'm a novice, but not a total n00b. I've been survey'n for a couple of days now. But for some reason the game thinks I'm collecting a sample when I'm not. It just sits there doing nothing. i.e. when I click on sample, nothing happens for several minutes. And if I try to survey, I get the error in the subject line above. I'm stuck. Just for kicks, I tried another char and it seemed to work ok. I've rebooted and switched to another computer, same result. Any ideas?

That always happens to me when I'm surveying from a vehicle, but has never happened on foot, so I ask, are you on foot, or mounted?

all you have to do is dismount.. Im guessing you hit sample while in a vehicle. then click sample again, wait for the animal then type /stand you can survey again.. pretty easy work around over all

Yes, I was on a speeder sampling over water. Then I went LD. When I came back into the game, that's when I was bugged. I ended up destroying the tool and making another. That seemed to fix it.

Thx for the help, at least now I know what causes it!

That one is irritating. Takes me a good amount of time of not being connected to get rid of it.

I've had this happen whilesampling in a vehicle over water.

Generally I'm able to return to being able to survey after sampling over waterby doing two things:

/stand

goose the engine to move the vehicle somewhat

You'll still have the problem that you have to wait until the end of a second half-minute sampling cycle before the surveying code "realizes" that it can survey again. You'll see and hear the audio/visual effect of sampling, but you won't actually sample anything. At that point your /survey command will work again.

Sometimes it doesn't work the first time. Revving the engine to move 50 meters or so has always done the trick.

Personally, I find the extra 30 seconds for the "fake" sample to be so annoying that I don't sample over water any more....

all you have to do is the following.....

/kneel

/stand

and itll make it stop, its worked for me
