When you craft an item near a crafting station, you usually have a couple of options for the item. One option is to create a prototype item. This actually creates an object that ends up in your inventory (after the crafting tool is finished with it). The other option is to create a manufacturing schematic. This is instant, and it ends up in your datapad (under data - not schematics). This is the schematic you need to load into the factory.

You're thinking of the schematic under the schematics part of your datapad. You need to have the schematic there in order to do either of these options, but the 'create manufacturing schematic' option allows you to create something more tangeable. You can even trade or sell these 'manufacturing schematics' to other people, or load them into the harvester.

you will need a Weapon/Droid crafting station, as well as a weapon/droid crafting tool.

alternatively to the crafting station would be to get a droid with the crafting station installed. i bought myself a nice R3 unit last night that had all 5 types of crafting stations installed.
