I'm thinking that a lot of people are very annoyed with the fact that they can't tell the exact qualities of a weapon via the bazaar etc.

My thoughts are, what about makers marks? I'm pretty new to the game, but I'm pretty sure that the idea behind them is to allow the master merchants to create a name for themselves.. Like , "Greifter Weaponry: A Name You Can Trust" while allowing them to keep the soldiers / rebels who buy their equipment in the dark about what makes their weapons do more damage than everyone elses.

Personally I'd like to see a day when ads run accross billboards with things like "The Greifter MK IV pistol, most accurate and lethal blaster you'll find on Tattooine". That way , the marketting side of merchantism comes into the picture. I mean, the Merchant who can afford to run an ad on the large screens in the Bazaar has GOT to keep his reputation clean.

I'd also like to see a way of sueing Merchants, I mean, imagine if a merchant sells a resource extractor deed and pretends it's a factory or somesuch.. You should be able to sue him, or put a price on his head with a bounty hunter. Thoughts Everyone?

This requires building up a certain fame for yourself.

If you are the first to master a craft or you make the best of a certain item it's possible.

However everyone has access to the same resources, so good luck doing better than other crafters on your server.

Good point. Perhaps what is needed are more refined branches. For instance, a master craftsman has to specialize into only certain areas, for instance one master might be able to craft a blaster that did maximum elemental burn damage, while another can make blasters that do maximum freeze damage, but neither would ever be able to outdo the other in their niche. That gives a lot morevalue for niche marketting.

Also, you don't need to be the best at something to do well in business at it, You just have to do it dependably and have good contacts and service.

The mc'donalds thrive right along with the olive gardens. It's all about name recognition. In-game player product advertisements and/or certifications would be a boon to merchantile. A Merchant with a great name for making good weapons (like a smith'n'wesson) will be able to sell his products for more.
