Thread: thwarting those surveying popups?

ok... so I glanced over all the FAQs before typing this, and the other post about the macros for surveying, although they touch on this subject lightly, did not help me what-so-ever. So, here I go:

I use the surveying macro right now. My problem is that I can not bypass the popup menu about concentrations ore and what-have-you. I do leave the macro running, but when those popups show, the macro tries to apply the commands to the new popup instead of actually surveying and retrieving ore.

People have said that it doesn't matter for them. I'm saying that whenever this happens, it does not allow me to gain exp for surveying at all, and will infinitely loop on the popup screen.

I mean, people... it's all about watching Oprah and Jerry Springer. I HAVE to know the book of the month club or else I won't be hip and cool at school the next day, because there is like this gorgeous english teacher I could be out sharing a soda with if it weren't for this damned Surveying macro thing.

Seriously

Is there a way to bypass the popups? Thanks

This is the one I used, was some time ago though, so may or may not help:

/kneel;
/pause 2;
/sample;
/pause 2;
/sit;
/pause 27;
/ui action toolbarSlot11;

Substitue the 11 in the /ui action ... bit to whichever slot you have the macro hotkeyed to.

All u do is put something on the enter key to keep it pressed(i use my cell phone)and every time a pop-up comes it will automaticly clear it out.

You seem to be missing the point of the pop ups. The dev's put them in to stop afk sampling. There is no real way around them. The best thing to do is use the time to knock out all the crafting ginding you need to do. Surveying really dosn't take all that long. Just remember the resource dosn't matter but the higher the concentration the less likely your are to come up with nothing. And watch out for those radio active ones..the pack a whalop.

Tomcat, I believe you made statements like this before, and they are false. Maybe they did implent the pop-ups to get rid of AFK sampling, but I more see it as a way to reward those who aren't afk. Example:

I am a master artisan and surveyd for some chemical. Typically got 6 to 8 each sample. If a survey pop-up came up that said something like "Do you want to try to extract the concentration?". Now, if I did that, I could get as much as 60 (!) resources on one sample. Pretty much faster, if you ask me.

Once again, there are ways to get past the pop-ups, so don't claim that there are not.

I have no problems with macroing through the survey line. I sort of did half and half. The first couple of boxes I was at keyboard but when I realised how long it would take to do the last two, I have to say I decided to go for the macro. This wasn't because I'm a hologrinder. I have absolutely no intention of going through as many professions in the shortest possible time. For me, I used the macro because the survey line is not fun, it does nothing but serve as a means to an end make surveying more convenient.

On a second character I created I didn't macro through it, choosing to craft through the medic chemistry and some artisan boxes while surveying. That was more fun.

I would say either is valid. Enjoy the game, after all it is a game, and don't we play games to have fun?

I'd actually recommend an adjustment to this macro...

/sample;

/pause 2;

/stand;

/pause 32;

/ui action toolbarSlot11;

Reasoning: If you're going to AFK macro your surveying, sitting down will cause you to move backward over time. For example, if you leave yourself AFK sampling overnight, you could end up a couple hundred meters from where you started. It's just a side effect of sitting.

You'll still wander while standing, but not as far. A dozen meters or so. Not enough to take you off your high concentration sampling spot, and hopefully not enough to back you into a huurton lair.

Note that you'll still have dozens of surveying popups when you're done. Just hit escape a few dozen times until all the popups are gone.

/kneel;

/pause 1;

/ui action toolbarSlot##;

This you drift less due to the pause at kneel so you do not sample while you char is rocking. Also you will fail less because your char is not rocking.

Ignore the popups, they dont hurt. Just hit cancel on them while sitting or else it will screw up the regen of your action.

This macro works for action 800 and the subs for action 475-500. You may need to tweak it for your char.

Also this is the fastest way to sample macro. Sample is on a 30 sec timer.

This is very odd. Sitting causes me to move forward, not backward. Why would some people move forward and some people move backward?

ok, I'm gonna go sit and stand a hundred times, and see how far I move in which direction

or you can just sample from the balcony or roof of a house and not move very far at all. plus you'll be mostly safe from the wildlife.
