Can anyone please tell me how to use an mineral/ ore recycler?

I just purchased an Ore Mineral Recycler and can't get it to accept items in it. I selected the type of resource but when I drag and drop them into the recycler slot, they don't stay there.

Right.
After it is done recycling the item, it spits out a "generic" version of it with all stats set at 200.

Do you have the recycler and the resource in your inventory?

What are you trying to recycle?

I'm a nuthead. I was trying to get it to work while it was sitting on my house floor since the radial menu has an "open" selection to let u place minerals in it. It only worked while it was physically in my inventory. Is this the only way it works or is there a bug with it? thanks.

It's just how it works.
It has to be in your inventory.
