It's about time. There's a field of condemned heavy harv's sitting on a 90% spawn of Siliclastic Ore on Talus/Eclipse. Similar scenarios in every galaxy...

I haven't seen anything announced on this. It may not happen for a while, especially since they announced no maintance for a while. They prob will hold off on any purge till that is over with and who knows how long that will be.

I personally doubt that it will ever happen. If there is even a chance that a person might come back to the game, I think that SOE would be hesitant to destroy that persons character and account. That would just about kill any chance of that player coming back to the game.
They announced way back in 2004 that they were going to start doing this, and that the policy was to do it every six months. It hasnt been done, and there has been no talk of it.
I agree that this would be a nice thing to have to clean up some of the dead houses and cities sitting around the servers, but I doubt it will happen. More likely is the possibility that they will simply do a /packup of an inactive accounts structures. That way if someone decides to come back ingame, they can reclaim their stuff. I think that would make a lot of sense, and it would solve both the dead structure issue and the desire to keep the incentive for players to come back to the game.

Actually I doubt your idea that a purge would kill any chance of any player returning. The whole concept of coming back to the game and having stuff is an incentive to come back, not a requirement on behalf of the player. Since the player doesn't play anymore, I really doubt they're submitting feedback that they want all their stuff to still be there. Keep the dead accounts active as they are is a marketing decision to help persuade ex-players to come back.
