Thread: Question about the red and blue numbers when I survey

I have something thats been bugging me for a while now. Everytime I put a harvester down, (like for ex. a good 91% spawn) its doesnt seem to last very long.

from a few hours to a few days. When I do the survey sometimes the higher numbers are red, while the lower numbers are blue. Whats the difference between them? And if anyone can help me (like you resource collecting masters out there) with a few tips to maximize my resource gathering skills, i would welcome the help.

Resource shifts are a fickle mistress. It seems the better the resource and the better concentration you find, the shorter the shift. Personally, I think it's one of those "selective memory" issues, where the short shifts stick out in your mind more. Most resources that are pulled with harvesters stick around between 1 to 3 weeks. Flora seems to have a longer time between shifts, minerals have a shorter time. Some "JTL" resources (they were added at the time of that expansion, they're used in shipwright schematics) are a little different, they can stick around for 3 weeks (I've heard maybe more).

The red numbers are the "high points" within your current survey range. Whether that's 20% or 90%, whatever the highest percentage within the tool shows up red. It's just a quick indicator to draw your eye to the better concentrations.

If you don't have it bookmarked already, make swgcraft.com your home. It's a great site for finding good resource spawns(provided you and other crafters on yoru server keep it up to date), although it won't help you in finding high concentration points.

I think the red/blue thing is just a hot/cold thing to indicate where the higher concentrations are, so you know which way to go

you can get the maximum benefit from a high concentration spot if you place the harvs shortly after the resource becomes available (so you can mine longer). how long a resource is available depends partly on how much of that resource has been mined, so it'll shift quickly if lots of people are harvesting it.

edit: doh, sciguy beats me to it

thx for the fast post!

it just might be selective memory, and your comments about flora being longer seems to make sense to me. Ive done master Doc (pre-CU) and Architect, and still have tonnes of flora resources left over from Doc. Now grinding DE on Ahazi, ive noticed some mineral resources spawn hardly ever. I am trying to work with my guild to post in the guild email large quanity spawns of resources, and trying to make a somewhat united effort to pool resources, but the player base has, to me at least, becaome somewhat fickle about helping each other. I use swgcraft.com every once and a while, but the one thing that I need (spawn waypoints) isnt possible. I just need to get over my laziness about surveying

Ill keep an eye on the resource spawn times and report back what I find.

hehe, us '03 ers are on top of things.
'Course I started playing at launch, but this being my first (and only online game, I dont count my trial period of CoH) I didnt know what a forum was until I actually visited the SWG site.
So in that respect, im a 2 year and counting newb, and proud of it. I kinda go with the flow, and use the forums for info and advice.
Keep up the good work both of you, I never fail to get anything but good info from both of you!
5 stars each!

The only real way to get good spots is to survey or pay to have it done, it's not likely somebody will just tell you. Truth be told, I can spend a fair bit of time surveying, and it seems like nothing much. When you're looking for one thing, it might be worth keeping WPs to center points of concentrations (they don't have to be high enough to use) and figure out where to look next.
