Thread: more vehicle talk

i just want to sharewhat i feelshould bein vehicles, not that i think they would make it happen.

of course vehicles need more component that go into them. one idea is to have vehicles accept one optional component. this is a good thing in that it creates more of that interdependence between classes. the optional slot could perhaps be filled with some armor component made by an armorsmith, or a detonator modulemade by an DE. yes i would like to be able to flat-out explode my bikes to punish those who attack them. it would be nice if they exploded on their own from being disabledbut umm ill settle for the module and of course i would want it useable by all classes. essential the optional slot would create variety - this swoop has extra kinetic resistance, this swoop has extra whatever, etc.

my other idea, and perhaps i am just repeating someone else, i think vehicles need a turbo of some sort, similar to /burst. this turbo can decay the vehicle faster with each use or even perhaps cause permanent damage to the vehicle, reducingitstotal bar even after it is repaired. sometimes you just need that extra speed so its win for the "ppl" and its win for us -- hopefully decaying and disabling more bikes sooner and thus we can sell more faster.

I want a vehicle that I don't have to repair three or four times a day.

I don't have an extra 3 million lying around or I would. I swear that I pay 10K in vehicle repair most days. Surveying, harvestor servicing, shopping, hunting, theme park missions... I just about live on my swoop. Ah well...

you dont have to use a swoop. also do not keep your vehicle out too long nor call it too much. both are good ways to decay it faster. i pay about 6k range a day for a swoop. my first days of having a swoop i cant remember them costing so much to maintain so i got more vehicles. if im surveying, i use a landspeeder, if im just riding around a speederbike, if i want to get somewhere sooner, then i use a swoop.

I really wish that higher quality vehicles would have lower decay rates, not just higher HAM.

I use my swoop to service my resource collectors because some of them are quite far from the nearest shuttleport. I do use shuttles whenever possible too. I always put my bike away when I won't be using it for more than 5 minutes. (Taking it out again uses up about 5 minutes of decay.) I always recommend speederbikes to new players because the repair cost is about half.

The money is not really the problem for me as my weapons are now selling pretty well. I just find it to be kinda strange that my high tech ride needs to be fixed every two hours. It sucks.

I'd like to see general decay go away, but to acquire some kind of damage (nothing too drastic) for running into a tree or rock or something. If I drive my truck into tree, I'm pretty sure it'll be damaged. Same thing.

Also, these things should run on some sort of fuel, like wind energy or radioactive (nuclear powered speeder)or something like that. Have an experimentation line for fuel tank size. Or batteries. Or both.

The collision damage is a nice idea, but I don't think it would be feasible in application. If this were not an online game then it would be fine, but because this is an online game and people lag all of the time it just wouldn't work. How many times have you smashed your speeder or yourself into something because you lagged for even just a half a second? Having this kind of damage take place from collisions would essentially be penalizing people for their internet connection/hardware performance (or lack thereof).

I do like the idea of the fuel. A master artisan made battery would be pretty sweet for us. It couldn't totally replace vehicle maintenance; the Devs love vehicle maintenance because it's a way for them to take money out of the economy and keep the cash levels from getting any higher than they already are. But maybe they could design it such that your vehicle decay rate is dependant on the quality of your battery. The better your battery, the slower your vehicle decays and the longer the battery lasts.

Branching off of what someone said earlier, I would also like to see optional mods for vehicles. I've come up with a short list of potentials that I think would be neat.

  • A storage bin. Basically a trunk. It would work exactly like the droid item storage compartment.

  • A sound system. Ever get tired of listening to the same music every time you're on Corellia? With the sound system you would be able to select any SWG music that you wanted to hear while driving around. Since all of the sound files are on our hard drives already surely there must be some way they could implement this.

  • An armor mod. Just something that your local armorsmith could whip up for you to increase your vehicle's ability to take a beating in combat.

  • A gun mount. I know that this one has been mentioned before and there are really mixed feelings about it, but I think it would be nice if we could have just a basic laser weapon mounted onto the speeders. The Endor bikes in ROTJ had them, right? I think it should be a fairly weak gun. No armor penetration. No specials. Just something that you could use to blast those evil settlers while jetting around on Tatooine. Also, no XP of any kind should be awarded for using this weapon. I think the trade-off for the Devs giving this to us would need to be that more NPCs start attacking speeders. I know that BH marks will take your speeder out if it's close and they kill you. And I know that some NPCs have area attacks that can hit speeders, but I think that your everyday NPCs should start attacking speeders once the speeder starts firing on them.

  • A rechargeable turbo mod. Just something that would give you that little extra boost of speed when you needed it. As much as I hate to say it, I like the idea someone had about the turbo mod decreasing the max hitpoints on a vehicle. It's a good idea, I just know that I'd never be able to bring myself to use a vehicle with a turbo mod in it.

  • A special mod to asist in water travel would be pretty cool. Just something that would make your speeder travel more efficiently over water.

Anyway, those are the ones I've come up with off the top of my head. I've come up with others in the past, but I can't remember them right now. Please feel free to comment/add in ideas of your own.

....but I did just save a bunch of credits on my swoop insurance by switching to Geico.

The fuel idea does have plenty of potential. Especially if they can find a way to implement a part where the potential energy of the particular chosen fuel has some relation to speed, whereas fuel with a PE of 2 will allow you to putt putt along like granny in the left lane of the interstate in Florida, while a PE of 1000 will make your real hair move. You could have rogue Stormtroopers pull you over for going too fast through a residential zone and you can kill them for being there and then have more stormies come down out of nowhere to Rodney King your ass and then, well, wait a minute here, that might be content. I'm not going there.

In a side note, I'd love to have some kind of indicator telling me how fast I'm going.

I like the Vehicle battery, though another take on the battery could perhaps be to add some additional 'temperary' HAM to the vehicle that would get used up before the vehicle starts taking damage that needs repaired. Two limitations to the battery would need to be:

1 a vehicle repair building couldn't fix any points given by the battery, and

2 the battery dosn't act like a repair kit and fix points lost from the bike taking damage.

Just a thought

I find it cheaper to let them go poof and then buy another one off the bazzar for 6k.

I like the PE of the fuel to speed relationship and the optional slot(s) for vehicle improvement. I especially like the latter and the mention of a weapons module since my speederbike (and everyone that has a speederbike) already has a laser turrent on it but has no way of using it. May the stars be kind to you both
