Thread: Does this seem like an exploit?
I looked at a bike today I couldn't believe. I had seen it once in one spot, then couple hours later I came back to that place the bike was still there but not smoking like I thought it would be. Mind you this isnt my bike. I wondered what made it still be in good condition even after sitting out so long . I examined it and nearly fainted.
I have proof that this swoop bike(Clicky) has 40k HAM and I just have to know if its some kind of exploit or is it really possible to have a bike like that. If its not an exploit thats cool, but come on, 40K? the best bikes Ive ever seen were 3k HAM. So Master aritsans, is this an exploit?

C'mon...we're artisans. Even if it was an exploit, who would sinklow enough toslap an artisans hands? That's like arresting a bum for finding a quarter on the street and NOT returning it to the rightful owner.
I think it was a random fluke during crafting...and cannot be created at will....but I'm not a 100% sure about that.
I'll try to find the thread where this issue was actually addressed by someone at SOE, but the overall response from the SOE staff on this issue was as follows:
Crafting one of these can't always be labeled as an exploit because it can happen on accident. The point at which this bug stops being a bug and starts being an exploit is when:
- A player repeats his actions to take advantage of the bug to craft another 40k HAM speeder
- Or if you know that you have a bugged speeder and you don't take any corrective action (such as deleting it or contacting a CSR)
So in answer to your question, yes this is probably an exploit. It is possible that the owner of the bike doesn't know of it's HAM condition, but I somehow doubt it. I respect that you edited the image so that we couldn't see his name. This player doesn't need to be smeared all over the forums. I would recommend that you contact this player and point him to this posting so that he is aware of the illegal nature of his speeder. Whether or not he chooses to do the right thing from there is up to him.
I've spoken to several people who have had these speeders taken away from them. The punishments have ranged from justhaving the speeder taken away to having the speeder taken away and having their account suspended for a week. The later case usually occured when there was concrete proof of the owner's knowledge of the bike's condition (ie. g-mail records, spatial chat records, etc.). To my knowledge no one has ever been permanently banned from SWG for taking advantage of this particular exploit.
Edit: Yes, there is (or was)a repeatable way of doing this. Yes, I do know what it is. NO I won't share it with anyone and NO I have never intentionally made use of it.

I have had a end user method of doing this described to me... mostly because I "exploit hunt" and turn them in... I wasn't able to get it to replicate according to their instructions.. but then it -was- second hand info... (and for the record, I had someone ELSE try it in front of me .. muahahah).. but the method described, put together with some of the bugs I know about this game and with the knowledge of programming that I have make it seem -likely- to be close to how it can be done...
But since I cant replicate it, Its moot on reporting it... since you cant fix what you cant break.
It's cheaper to just build/buy another bike than try to repair it.

Some of the NPCs and beasts in the game can destroy an ordinairy swoop in one attack. The 40K HAM swoop would be mighty handy under those circumstances.
