As you all know the Survey branch stops at survey 4, well what if it didn't......I think there is a good bit of benefit that could be added to the Survey tree.
For lack of a better name I decided on Interplanetary Surveyor, but would be open to better suggestions.
My idea is this:
At the novice level gain minor survey bonus to range (Maybe +30M)
The four branches would require different Experience and give different bonuses.
The tree for advanced survey would give +5 Terrain Negotiation per box, also bonuses to range (similar to Artisan survey), and at higher levels have access to more types of resources that lower level surveyors just couldn't find. In this way you gain an advantage over Artisan survey 4.
The second tree deals with harvester placement the higher in this tree you advance you would gain the ability to place harvesters in rougher terrain allowing access to some of the better resources that always seem to spawn in the harder to reach areas.
The third tree deals with Harvester efficiency. The higher in this box you progress you gain the benefit of reduced maintenance cost and power consumption for your harvesters. (similar to merchant efficiency tree)
The fourth tree allows you to place more harvesters than normal. As you advance in this tree you would gain bonus lotsthat may only be used to place harvesters.
At the master level, as with all master level classes you would gain even further benefits to your abilities, making you a true master at finding and harvesting resources.

This idea has been kicked around alot. There was even a profession like this during Beta, but it was yanked due to the Devs belief of a lack of support for it.
I had a very similar idea in this thread:Elite Artisan Profession: Geologist
Check it out, make comments, revise your own idea as you see fit, and keep running with it. The more support we have for something like this, the better the chances of it getting reimplemented.

Thanks for the reply it is good to know this is getting some attention from our correspondant, and hopefully from the Dev's as well.
I think with continued development and game testing this could be a very viable profession in the SWG universe.
A friend of mine also made the suggestion with JTL to allow for specific resource survey sensors to be added to ship so you can tell what resources are available on a planet from orbit. (Much like the results from the survey droids)

That is a brilliant idea!
It may not need to be part of a ship, but can go inline with the DE survey droids as an actual module placed in an Astromech. There would then be no fundamental difference. The only real difference would be you have to be in orbit to get the results vs sending a droid off alone to do it. Maybe even have a Master Artisan cert such as other droid modules to give Master Artisan even greater weight.
DRASHK!!! Pass this along please if you would!
Hmph. Not sure if he reads this forum....
/em stomps off to the DE forums with a note for Drashk inhand........
