At novice you don't have alot of "high" XP items available to you. If you're looking for something to craft to work your way up the crafting trees one of the more common methods is to grind mineral survey devices until you hit Engineering III. Once you hit Engineering III start grinding personal extractors. They yield around 450 XP per extractor crafted.

At Novice Artisan, I believe it's survey tools, or maybe crafting. Once you hit Eng 3, harvesters all the way ... and they'll even be worth using once the BER hits 3-4. Sorry I can't check, I'm waiting out the update...

In game press Ctrl + P to pull up what I like to call your "people" window (yes, I know it has an official name, but I refuse to conform! ). Click on the "Search" tab and do a search for anyone with any of the following tags: master artisan, any weaponsmith, any droid engineer, any armorsmith and any architect. Anyone who has a tag that's on that list will have engineering III and I'm sure that at least one of them will be more than happy to train you if you just send them a polite tell.
