I got my first order today just by hanging round Coro SP. Now I need a bit of help with pricing it.

I need to craft 150 Power Conditioners and 150 Energy Distributors..

Now I dont have some of the resources which I will buy this time round for speed, but how much do I charge?

Cheers

I have to ask....you say you're crafting away...surely you just made two schematics and are factory running these?!?

But to try and answer....I've not sold those two items as of yet...but as anything craftable, I'll charge between 3-6 cpu per resources used depending on availability and/or uberness of used resources.

Yeah Factories are running.

So based on the 3-6cpu resources used, A ED requires 27 units and a PC requires 32 units. So if I say 3cpu for now (Infinity is a pricey server so may charge more. People pay upto 3000cr for 1 Powerup on the Bazaar! Crazy).

ED = 81cpu

PC = 96cpu

Seems reasonable enough. Thanks mate.

I have a sliding price scale on these. The larger the order, the less I charge per unit of resources. I've listed my pricing guide below; the cpu numbers are all pretty rough estimates because these are set prices for a factory crate regardless of the type of component. When doing a custom order I will always take the time to actually figure out what price that particular customer is actually paying per unit of resource so that they can be informed of what they're actually paying for.

  • Crates of components sold on my vendor: 5k per crate (Average of about 7cpu) They pay more for the convenience of being able to just grab and go.

  • Special Orders of less than 1000 units: 3k per crate (Average of about 4cpu)

  • Special Orders of 1000 units or more: 2k per crate (Average of a little less than 3cpu)

Obviously these prices vary somewhat. For instance, if a customer wants 3000 of units of something ASAP they'll be charged a bit more because in order to get it to them truly ASAP I have to tear down an extractor and put up an additional factory so I can do three factory runs at once. Similarly, if the order doesn't give me time to mine a resource that I'm out of I'll inform the customer that I'm currently out of that resource and they can either: wait while I mine more, pay the escalated price due to my having to buy the resource or find someone else to fill their order.

Obviously your prices will probably work out to be a bit different than mine based on your server. Honestly I think people will pay more than I charge them, but I pride myself on having very reasonable prices on everything I sell. I like to think that it keeps my customers coming back to me.

I have charged the Customer 30k for this order, which works out to about 3.5cpu of resources I used. The reason I chose this amount is the same as you have outlined Kyyle. Repeat Business. As you know I am fairly new to this proff, and I don’t want to price myself out of the market as the person who ordered these was let down by someone else. Consequently I have gained another much larger order for fulfilling this one from the same person.

I believe that in order to remain competitive on my server I will have to avoid buying resources full stop and mine my own. One of the disadvantages of this is that I have to pre-empt what I am going to need. But I suppose this is all part of the fun

Getting the resources that you need for components and keeping them stocked isn't as troublesome as you might think. The only things you really need to keep on hand are:

  • Copper

  • Polymer

  • Ore

  • Inert gas

  • Yes, I have an infatuation with bullet lists... it's a problem...

All of the components also call for any kind of metal, but you can either use the copper for that as well or just make use of some left over speeder resources. Generally, I find that as long as I have 50k of each of the above resources on hand I have no problem with custom orders no matter what the size. The power conditioners also call for Amorphous Gemstone, but it's only 2 units per conditioner so a stock of 10k should be more than sufficient.

Congrats on the order and welcome to the business!
