Couple brandys, food if you want a bit more range,

/survey;

/pause 2;

/macro SurveyLoop

Steer the swoop till you hit the sweet spot.

Personally I love it, I absolutely hated surveying before the patch.

There are local 'hills' and 'valleys' in the percentages, so I don't think that a lowered range makes up for the added mobility and speed. You might think you are on the best spot, but not actually be there.

This doesn't sound like nerfing the range, rather a relative lack of need for range, since you don't have to dismount. If you survey often enough, you can follow it at speed.

I haven't surveyed since the patch but did they nerf the range? If they did, how will the survey line of the FS senses tree be affected?

with limited range it will take you 10 times as long to find a good spot... when i am driving and i pass a spot thats on the very edge of my range.. i change direction and at times it helps me find tiny high % spots that i never would have found with a shorter range.. soo no its not useless at all.. i would NEVER give up range...

I am super confused..first by the title of this thread and then the first post..it makes no sense to me relating to the posts subject and second, it has been stated and I asked here too, if the range had been nerfed. I was told it had, due to driving now. Well, I hadn't surveyed in awhile and last night I finally did. Nothing has changed range wise..maybe I'm confused because I've been an artisan for 1.5 years and the only thing I thought could boost range was the Force Trees.

Using the 1st posters method, will work but not effieciently.

Many resources, particularily minerals run in "veins" not "spots".

Veins can have a peculiar way of manifesting "peaks", meaning if your following one it can peak up to say 60% then taper off only to peak again several hundred meters down the line. If your range is too low you wont notice the re-growth.

Case in point:

Thursday night a very, very good spawn of Kammris Iron spawned on Naboo. So like normal I looked at my over head map ctrl+v then placed two way points on the map--(I just call them 1 and 2). I then head out in that direction knowing that its fairly flat land and the best way to start surveying. I place these about 3km from the starport I land on. Lazy miners go closer. So I start surveying about 1.5km from the wp. I can usually pick up a trace somewhere along this line of travel then start following the vein.

So a typical spawn starts, 12%, 15, 18, 20 40, 60, 64 and wham! A whole field of harvs...newly placed at that. They are obviously harving this spawn but at such a low density! I continue, the spawn drops off, dog legs, then picks up again, same progression but up to 66% and wham tons of harvs. I again see the spawn falling off but one line is holding steady at 22-25 so I follow that. It starts peaking again 25, 36, 45, 67, 74, 78, 82! Heres my spawn. I mark it and follow it a bit more, but experiance tells me that a higher concentration on this vein is unlikely. I destroy the 2 lairs screwing up placement then plant all 7 medium and heavies.

So that extra time is reaping me about 3-5k more ironper harv, perday, all told probably about 150k (over spawn life)more than the folks placed on the 60% spawns and reducing my cost to a mere .06 cpu (self harvested power). Meaning that I can sell my resources cheaper, have higher profit for about 35-40 more minutes of work.

Ya, nothing changed about survey/sampling. The only thing that changed was the ability to do it from a vehicle/creature mount.

Enhanced range is very nice, even on a vehicle, as it helps you hone in on best spots, absolute maxima vs local maxima as it were.

There is one other significant difference between novice artisan and surveying-4. If you are sampling to view the stats of resources, at novice artisan, you must be on a 33% concentration or better. At survey-4, you only need a 10% spot. When you just have to know what the stats are on the new berries, for example, you can sometimes save a lot of time if you don't have to chase the 33% spot.

You can drive and survey! FS skills can increase survey range?

yes, the senses tree will do just that.
