Get your hands on a "Survey" device from an Artisan or buy one from the Bazaar. There are different types of ressources : Minerals, liquids, etc. You open your inventory and use the device. This will "survey" the area and tell you where the ressource you selected is most present.

Go to the area where the ressource is most concentrated (the higher the % indicator is, the more it is concentrated). Then either click on sample in your survey window, or type /sample.

This should help you start.

Step 1) Get a tool; mineral for metals, flora for inorganics, chemical for chemical... you get the idea

Step 2) Click on the tool and wait for a few seconds. When using a tool for the first time, you have to set the range. It'll come up after a second as tool options or something; Number 4, it'll have a pull down to set the range. You won't have to do this again until your surveying gets better and you can increase the range

Step 3) Click on the tool and select use. You'll get a LARGE list. Anything listed in yellow is a subcatergory, anything in white is an actual thing to be surveyed. There's a button on the lower right of the use box that says 'survey'. AFter choosing a material from the list, click the survey button. You'll get a lot of percentages in the main window. Red means that direction the concentration gets higher, blue means lower. Walk in the direction of higher, and survey again. Repeat until you find a concentration you're happy with. Concentration affects the number of pieces you get when you sample.

Step 4) Alright, you've found a spot you're happy with. CLick the sample button. You only have to click it once, you'll continue sampling until you a) run out of action points, or b) stand up. Voila, you have material

As a note, anything under 20% is to low a concentration to be sampled. Good luck

Well first you need to get the right tools, so get someone to make or buy a chemical device and a mineral one. Once you have these then pick something you want to find. Things that people need are ALuminum and Steel for metal and then fiberplast (sp) and Ploymo...something or other. Anyway open up your device and hit survey (after you highlight what you are looking for) and then you should 1 of 2 things, 1 numbers and the higher the precent the better the sample so run in the direction you see the highest precent and keep surveying till you get to where you will be happy. Or 2. that can't be found, in which case you need to look for other stuff. I hope this helped a little

What % does the concentration have to be to be able to sample the minerals? and, those "samples" that you get out of the ground, are you able to sell/use them? or are they much to small??

Ok, if the % is under 20, don't waste your time. Move till you can find something greater. Yes, you can sell your matierals in the Bazaar, however, I think most people will only be looking for rare minerals/flora and so on.

Want to start crafting? easiest way to get it up is to find a good metal percentage, I found one that was 98%, sample it over and over again. Then you can make the other devices with the general crafting tool.

Anymore questions keep asking.
