Thread: METAL TYPES?

When a recipe asks for X Metals or X Chemicals does it matter what materials they are?For example Is there a difference in using Copper (which i heard is better) than say steel? And when is this important (making weapons possibly?). Thanks...

The type of resource you choose is the most important factor for experimentation. When you look at the schematic for something you plan to take look below the required ingredients of the item and find the Experimental categories. For example Mineral Surveying Tool has two categories: Experimental Durability and Experimental Effectiveness. The durability is basedentirely on Decay Rate (100%), and the effecitiveness is basedentirely on Conductivity (100%). If you plan to maximize the effectiveness of this item when you experiment, then you will want to use materials with a maximum Conductivity, such as copper.

You will have to sample many different types of resources to get an idea of what values each has and you will want to fool around with it until you find the combinations that yield the best results.

http://www.swgcenter.com/info/Schematics.asp

You cna look up a lot of the schematics at that location. When an item asks for "Metal" etc simply click on the link and you will be brought to all the available Metal Resource frm our database.

Enjoy!

But Darth this doesn't help us on which are better for what weapons and stuff...it's jsut list all the metals...You database should have that I would think...

I.e.

CDEF Rifle

top5 you can use...for trigger

top5 you can use for casing

etc

etc

That would be nice

While I do agree, it is not something that can be done just yet. However, when looking at the CDEF pistol for example, it lists percentages of what is best for that particular section of te gun. FOr example, 50% Overall Quality and 50% Decay Resistance. Simply look at the resource section of my site and try and locate a metal that with that is highest in both areas as that accounts for 100% of how good tht section of the weapon will be made.

Note that materials vary from galaxy to galaxy... the best metal for blasters on Bria doesn't exist on Ahazi, for example. Further, materials are exhausted over time and replaced with new materials. Maintaining an accurate databaseof the best materials for all 1500+ schematics in every galaxy would be a herculean task.

Further, the materials that make the absolute fastest blasters aren't generally the ones that provide the highest damage, and faster may be better than bigger in many situations. That adds a further layer of complexity.

Fan sites can and will help with the crafting process, but at the end of the day you're going to have to do your own homework for the applications you want to pursue.

Take a powerful damage-wise blaster and attach a speed bosting coupler or handgrip assembly power up to it... It won't be as fast as the fastest blaster, but that's not a big deal...

Besides, if you are a Marksmen with Level I skills, you can always use the Over Charge Shot to really kick it into big damage. With the weekest of blasters I am able to kick out upwards of 140 damage with one hit. Which is VERY nice when it is needed...

Thanks for that explanation Yukonsam, I don't see any good copper conductivity in my galaxy (fyi its not Bria), I have found a steel with very high conductivity and decay resistance though. And that explains why, Thanks.

what i have done with skins for armor and started with the metal types is get a varied few in inventory and do my own research. look at the atributes you want, overall quality seems to be the biggy, and use those for your craft. I just started really playing friday and have not looked at boards until monday so my first wave of materials were not looked at as closely as what I did last night. My new work is far superior and hopefully players will notice the difference and pay accordingly. darths databse is great as it points you in a direction but he cant hold your hand do the mining and look at what you are getting. I have an idea of what direction i am going to go tonight when i get my first harvestor up but that will change as my research gets better and materials change. this is a noble profession have fun with it.

yeah using the right materials also allows yo more experimenting slot on the item

i.e.
19% yields one more slot then 16%

i haven't figured out what determines your experimenting points yet though

Experimentation points for the artisan schematics are determined by your artisan experimentation bonus (see your skill sheet). Engineering and Domestic Arts both increase the total, and being human adds a bonus as well.

The number of experimentation points you have is determined by the "Artisan Experimentation" skill mod.
