Thread: How do resources disappear after overmining? Slowly or suddenly?
No one may know this yet, but maybe someone from beta has an idea. When a resource is depleted on a planet, how does it go away? Does it suddenly become unavailable? Or does the percentage in each area slowly decrease until it's 0?
I'm concerned about how many steel harvesters are up near Theed on Gorath. There are a LOT of them in the spot I have one (at least 15).
The way i've seen it explained is that all planets in any given galaxy all feed off the same pool of a resource, so if you survey a certain copper on corellia and survey the same copper on tatooine they both come out of the same pool, how big that pool is no clue, but i'm sure its tied to the stats of the material, and other factors. Once that material has been exausted it vanashes across the galaxy to be replaced by another material, which is instant. I dont know if its always the same type of resource, like if a steel poofs another steel takes its place.
Ok, well, Naboo and Rori seem to share a number of resources, so I suppose I have to worry about mining there too. Too bad there's no way to know when it's close! I am about to set up two new steel harvesters, and with my luck, it will disappear tomorrow and move to Tatooine.

Artuk
I know how it was in beta, but it seems it might be a little different now.
I haven't verified this, but a friend (my roommate) says she went to a spot that WAS an 80% steel resource, and now is empty... the steel is still listed in the survey tool, so maybe it really is individual concentrations that dry up now....
Maybe. ![]()
And I wouldn't MIND if hundreds of harvesters dried up one field, leaving lots of untapped fields out in the wilderness far far from cities... that would actually be nice, give the daring miner an incentive to be explorative... however, with harvester maintenance as it is, this would suck.
If we could get a maintenance interface, say, at banks that simply let you see the condition of your harvesters and pay them credits for their upkeep, that would be great! Combine that with linking a harvester to a power generator near it so that you didn't have to manually walk out to it to pick power out of one to put into another (have it use the power straight from the hopper) and things would be so much easier... I am fine with having to go TO it to get the resources, or even change the mineral (though it'd be nice to change the mineral harvested from the interface, as well as turning on and off)... but there really needs to be an interface that doesn't require you to wander out to it for every little thing.
That, and I wish harvesters weren't filled with lizard-**edit** or cat-**edit** or whatever it is in them that attracts giant nasty things to sleep at their foot.
It's not so bad when they DON'T deathblow (unless they just keep incapping you) but I always get stuck with the big mean deathblowing things... I slowly creep up hoping to get within 10 meters of my harvester while 20 meters from it (IF I'm lucky), but usually, ears perk up, and suddenly I am fertilizer.. *sigh*
