Thread: Just a hint to Artisans (and all crafters) from somebody who actually buys this stuff...
I'm sorry to say, friend, you're robbing yourself. Relabeling a CDEF isn't a rip off, it's what I do to show that this isn't JUST a CDEF. I saw a D18 going for 2000 credits. On a lark, I figured I'd open it up and see what the stats on it were. 17-55. 4.something attack speed.
My HigreCorp line of CDEF derivative, namely the HigreCorp "Emperor" pistol, the HigreCorp "Stinger" rifle, and the HigreCorp "Lava" Carbine are all better than that. Try 30-62, 3.3 attack speed. Add one of the quality +30/+15 upgrades that I make and sell to it and you have a weapon that is comparable to most of the low level WEAPONSMITH weapons out there, and at a much reduced price. 450 creds for the gun, and 300 for the upgrade. 500 shots worth of powered up killing machine, for LESS than that crap D18. And you just bought the D18 because it was a D18, and not a CDEF.

I’m an aspiring Weapons-smith and I totally agree with you. Most of the time I give my stuff away. I have no costs other that time making the stuff so what’s the point in making all this money. I do a few missions and boom I got 5-10 grand sitting in the back. Its not like my character has to eat. Yes when I have enough credits I’ll buy a house. Why because what else am I going to do with the money, buy a starship. That’s not going to happen till they bring out the expansion pack and by then I’ll have made another large lump of credits to sleep on . Besides most newbiees will take a crappie CDEF rifle that you just made and you get two things out of it. One (probably the best) you get someone that might just watch your back out there while your harvesting that wacky mysterious moving ore. You know your drinking a soda or going to the bathroom while you harvesting a steelhead and when you come back your being attacked by a bunny and you only got 10 health left. That guy you just gave a rifle to might just save you life. I met a fewplayers that I have helped out and I have been saved by a few as well. Second of course is that when he/she uses that piece’o @#$% rifle you get XP. So again I say what’s the point.
If I may add a little more to my rant, why is everyone charging so much for their stuff and who is actually paying for this high-priced merchandise? Who said you can charge 40k for a house or 10k for armor. For all you newbiees out there someone will do it for FREE. Why not I thought that was what the game was all about meeting new people and making new friends while saving the universe form the dirty (even though I work for them) Empire.
Yes, newbies, someone will do it for free. But someone else who's spent an hour working out quality 30-62 weapons (*cough* *cough* ME *cough* *cough*) will do it for a reasonable 450 credits, and will often throw in a power up sample (retail, 300 credits!) as well.

You know, surprisingly enough, all the gun types come in different classifications. How will people know, for example, if your Carbine is a Laser Carbine? Laser Carbines require Carbine IIIto be able to be used with any skill.
Hrm, you did give me an idea, though. I think I'll name any items I build with the name "A Corp". That way, they appear at the beginning of an alphabetical listing! It's a moot point though, because I've never seen the local area bazaar's ranged weapons page go beyond 2 pages, and all the items starting withCDEF appear on the first page when done in alphabetical order.
One thing I have done is put "by Myname" at the end of the items I've experimented successfully on. I saw in another post someone talking about it, because that way the buyer knows that the "CDEF Carbine"isn't just an item you grabbed off of a dead mob.
Lately I've been creating regular clothing. I tend to title it like so: Clothing Name -x Sockets - Color. I'm still not sure what Sockets are for, but I'm sure that Tailors can create clothing addons that attach to them.
I name my stuff:
ADR22-59 CDEF....
has the brand name and the damage...you can look up the rest. doesn't "insult" anyones intelligence.
...yes we pay to play too.
I destroyed all my newb weapons...except for powerups that where actually well made and YES, people bought them.

See, ADR, that follows my major rules, that's the kind of thing I'd like to see. I could do without the damage, but that's the least offensive way (to my RP sensibilities) to include it -- nowhere in the title of the item does it say "damage" -- that's a good thing.
My problem was with people like mld0806 -- HigreCorp "Stinger" Rifle? So, can I use that or not? The bit about it being temporarily better than weaponsmithed rifles (due to the wsmiths not having the experimentation points to use on 'em yet) is irrelevant in the long run, I'm fully aware of it. But on my server, in my area, we're starting to get some experimented DL 44s and Scouts, and let me tell you, it shows. But I can't find the **edit** things, because I have to wade through literally over a thousand CDEFs and completely renamed CDEFs, most of which are junk. For every crafter who puts as much quality into the stuff the sell as mld0806 claims to, there's two dozen who sell every piece of crap that comes out of their crafting tool. Similarly, I've seen some pretty ridiculously bad things completely renamed in an effort to get them to sell regardless.
Frankly, I just want to know what the hell I'm looking at, so I can save time and compare it to similar quality stuff when I'm shopping around. And I want to know that in such a way that I can maintain this wonderful mood and atmosphere that this game portrays to me, rather than be barraged with game mechanics (damage! speed!) every time Iglance throughmy inventory. Flame me forthat if you want, but some people in this game are out to roleplay it, and will actually avoid your higher quality stuff just because you're naming it stupidly.
I must clarify. I ALWAYS put what the base design is in the description of the item. I'll say "a heavily modified version of the CDEF Pistol" or something like that.
I think it's better to own a custom HigreCorp rifle than just the same crap everyone else has, a [xx-xx] CDEF Pistol.

The catch to putting it in the description is that the description doesn't show up on the listing screen itself.
Oddly enough, I'm not surprised that youthink it's better that everyone own your items than other peoples. That's only common business sense.
Okay, okay. NOT HigreCorp for certain. I just meant something different from the standard CDEF Rifle....although, EVERYONE owning a HigreCorp weapon would be nice. ![]()

I label like this:
29-60 CDEF Rifle by Hallie
Works fine for me. I am not going to make up some stupid corporation name (HallieCo, or Starshine Enterprises) cause I AM NOT A CORPORATION. I'm just a girl who wants to handcraft quality weapons, not a corporate entity!
Until they come up with changes to the bazaar that lets buyers sort the items based off of their Guaranteed Attributes, then its shooting yourself in the foot to not list the damage along with the base model.

I think the Bazaar listing screen could use an overhaul. It would be nice if there was some way of sorting weapons by their attributes. This would conveniently solve the problems that this thread is about.
However, I don't see it happening, because it would require a lot of reworking on SOE's part.
