Thread: Crafting from backpacks?

I searched but couldn't find an answer to this question. As an artisan I have to keep a lot of different resources close at hand and I now have a couple of backpacks to help store things. Problem is I can't seem to use a crafting device unless the necessary resources are loose in the top level of my inventory.
I can put the device in a container just fine but it will not see any resources even if they are in the same container.
Is there a way around this or must all resources be left loose? Can stimpaks/medpaks at least be kept in containers and still be usable?

Thanks for any assistance.

I have this problem, too. I'd also appreciate the answer to this.

You can keep medpacks/stimpacks in a backpack...They can be used from your action bar ( that thingie at the top, middle of your screen ) when you drag them to it and make a macro...Otherwise they are not detectable when you click on them inside the pack...As for crafting inside the backpack ( i.e. Ultima Online ), I don't think you can do it.

I keep all my harvested resources in my safe deposit bax at the bank. You can keep up to 10,000 units each of 100 different resources at one time. ( At least thats what I think. Haven't tested 10,000 of any of them yet)

I'll usually just pull out what I need and either start crafting there, or take the stuff to a crafting station. Solves a lot of problems with having to carry around a lot of stuff in your inventory.

Stimpacks can still be used from backpacks, as can the crafting tools. The resources you intend to use, MUST be in your regular inventory. Sorry, I don't know any way around that. I've got 3 general crafting and 4 clothing crafters in one back pack, all linked to my hotkey bar.

I use Travel Packs to sort my items. I have one for flora resources, one for minerals and one for my tools. This seems to help, allowing me to carry around what I want without filling up my main inventory. When I go to crafting, especially the same thing over and over, I will open the tool. Then I open my inventory and open up the appropriate Travel Pack. Then I move the resource from the pack to the crafting screen. The resource is automatically transferred to my main inventory and I'm able to use the resource to craft. This allows me to keep my resources organized and on hand without running to the bank all the time.

Thanks for the info! I figured the bank was the only solution to keep from lugging tons of stuff around with me. At least I can keep the crafting units and health stuff in a bag.
