Thread: Why can't you recycle resources?
When I destroy a junk weapon whyisn't therea way to recycle the resources.
I think that I should be able to recycle at least half of the spent resources on unwanted items. I put it to the devs to come up with a recycling station to recover resources at a nominal fee. Or even make it a player building where the player can buy junk from other players recycle it and sell the resources as a business.
This sounds like a fairly decent idea. I don't believe a recovery station like the one you speak of would be too difficult to patch into the game. However, you still get the same amount of experience for everything you craft, even if it is trash. In the crafting process, the materials are fused together. If you could recycle a bit of it, it would make more sense to be able to salvage a piece of the weapon [for example, just the barrel] and use it in another weapon of the same type. However, this would degrade from the quality of the next weapon because you were using your "trash" parts.
So this system would have its pro's and con's, but I like your idea.
This was debated heavily in beta too.
One problem was that it helped powergamers by forcing them to gather less resources in craft and destroy grinding.
Another problem would be that the game would have to keep track of what went into it. (10 units of Whateveritis Neutronium Steel, etc.)
Another question would be, "What do you do with the 2 units of copper that you did recover, but can't find more of to stack with?"
I liked the idea of being able to recover certain components from wrecked drops, like a barrel, or something. This could provide a component that an artisan could use in crafting a new item. It might be fun if they had some really nice or rare parts that you could use if you managed to loot one, and salvage it sucessfully.
This is probably the best profession idea I've heard yet...even better than Surveyor.
Only thing that would make it better would be a playable Jawa race!
But, why not use the jawas for it any way? They are the scavengers of the universe...them and use Ugnaughts on industrialized planets!
Have resource scavengers give a base value for scavenged/useleess items, or allow parts to be salvaged at a reduced rate.
This has a lot of merrit as a profession or at least NPC run service.
A bonus by-product of this profession would be a lot less junk on the market at the Bazar terminals. Hopefully ppl would trash for resources back as opposed to spamming the bazars with useless cdef weps and survival knifes!
GREAT THOUGHTS ON THIS...KUDOS TO THE BEGINNER OF THREAD!
Anyone know how to pass this thread to the dev team?
"One problem was that it helped powergamers by forcing them to gather less resources in craft and destroy grinding."
I was thinking that it would help casual gamers. Most powergamers have their own harvesters in the field by now. I wouldn't think that it would be as beneficial topowergamers who havehoppers full of resources as it would to casual gamers (like me) still grinding for exp .
There's the whole keeping rack of what went into it and then it allows grinders to grind better. Maybe they can make a recycler that turns things into energy. Maybe one unit for every x resources that go into an item. Say it was one energy per 5 resources. Then powerups would give 2 energy and cdef's would give like 4 energy and so forth.
