Does it really matter (except fro some schematic requiring private station)? If so, how does it affect your crafting? less failures, higher experimentation or what?

Think of a public crafting station as just an "Average" quality private crafting station dropped in a public place for all to use. thats about the diffence between them as far as end results are concerned. Or at least thats how its supposed to work. No one is really sure whether the quality of the station effects anything (I have my own opinion on that but its only based on personal exp and superstition.) The nice thing about a private station is that its yours, in your house (or friends) and the lag is less then town. You can also get some nice upgrades for em as well. not really sure what some of the others do, but you do want the optional storage compatment. This allows you to store resources in the station itself that way you don't need to go pick em up.

Yes, having your own stations is nice. Haven't got myself a house yet. I spare lots for my harvesters. Will get me a house (or if private crafting stations is a big advantage) when it is time to get a vendor (no need yet since everything I sell can be done on the Bazaar).

Anyone know what the optional control unit(s) and micro sensor suit(s) does to the crafting station?

Yes, the storage hopper in the private crafting station is the best. I put all of my ingredients in there (to include specially made synth cloth - I'm a Tailor) and then keep my personal stock separate from the larger stock which is in the crafting station. One thing to remember is that every item in that hopper will count toward your maximum items in the house.

Crafting would be a bit more rough without that storage unit!
