Thread: Harvesting methods...need advice?!
okay right now i have 1 chem harv and 1 wind gen workin.
i have 8 more slots i can use,
what are the maintenance fees for these 2?
i was told 1440 for the wind and 750 for the chem.
i dont want to spread myself thin but i want to put out a mineral harv.
whats the best percentage for wind gen's to get the better power?
[ i.e. 2 wind gen's to 1 chem harv]
how much is the maintenance fees so that i can remove my harvestors?
any and all information would be greatly appreicated. i am just a lil' confused on somethings
Question #1 I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but 1440 and 750 sound right (within 50cr or so) for Personal Harvesters.
Question #2 First off, don't place wind harvesters on less than a 30% spot, it's worth the extra time to find a better spot (your harvesters will produce more, cost per unit will drop). I found the easiset way was to put as many wind harvesters down as I could the first week. All the other harvesters need energy, so it makes thing run smoother to have a stockpile of energy available. This will allow you deposit several days energy and maint. fees into a harvesters, thus removing the burden of hand feeding your harvesters upkeep every 24 hours. (Can't wait till mounts and vehicles are available.) If you don't have the cash to support just wind for a little while, then the rule of thumb is a single wind harvester can provide energy for 2-3 other harvesters. There is some play in this based on the effectivness of the wind harvesters (I was able to keep 8 mineral harvesters with 2 wind harvesters on 60% space for a week, 60% is the highest I've ever seen wind).
Question #3 Once again, working from memory, but 3000cr. With the new patch any additional maintenance and power stays with the harvester when redeeded. Before you do this, do some math though. You can buy a new wind harvester for 1000cr. So, if your wind harvester has 300cr left in the maintenance pool, it may be less expensive just buying a new one.
The maintenance costs of the larger harvesters don't change all that much, but the effectiveness increases. So, with a solar instead of a wind, you gain roughly twice the energy for the same investment.
Hope this helps; good hunting.
I guess I must be filthy lucky then.
Last week I decided to start harvesting power so I could get set up for some heavy mining in the next weeks.
So I survey for wind and finally find a decent 63% spot and plants 4 wind generators.
The following day I go back to check on them and behold they are stopped as the wind has shifted.
However things aren't bad.
There is now a 59% wind concentration where they are located and by surveying I find a 73% wind spot near where I plant 4 additionals wind generators ![]()
That really was the luck of the devil ...
Best I've gotten so far is about a 50% spot, the higher percentages were towards a city and I couldn't build there. And, it was in a playertown area so there weren't many harvesters already in place.
I've built up reserves of about 30k wind power which should last me a while. Just tore down a number of harvesters today, which should keep my monetary and time commitments to the game down (it kinda stinks when you HAVE to log in JUST to make sure your harvesters don't die -- and what is it with these maintenance costs? Why should a harvester you can only sell for 1200cr take 3000cr or more to get it back to 100% operational from 75%??
If you let a harvester run out of maintenance it's usually best to trash it...especially if you can make your own...unless you have a lot of power in it.
the wind generator i have is palced on a 35% location. its seems to be workin great.
thanks for the advice,
any other advice of gettin craftin XP?
"The maintenance costs of the larger harvesters don't change all that much, but the effectiveness increases. So, with a solar instead of a wind, you gain roughly twice the energy for the same investment."
Not true. It costs you twice as much to run medium harvesters as it does personal. Medium harvesters pull out twice as much resources as do personal. Do the math. The cost per unit of resource is the same with medium and personal harvesters. Therefor they have the same effectiveness.
Also one thing to look at is the larger the harvester the larger the footprint and the harder it is to place them. Often you won't be able to place medium and large harvesters on the sweet spot of a resource deposit as you would a personal harvester.
Ok, since the overall cost per unit and effectiveness for personal, medium and heavy harvesters is the same, then why use medium or heavy harvesters? Why not just use multiple personal harvesters? All I can think of is the ease of mainteneance because it's less stuff to keep track of.
If you are intersted in calculating your costs per unit, you might try the Lot Management Excel Spreadsheet. Just input how your lots are setup and it will be able to tell you several costs per unit calculations. You can download it from
http://swg.medievalweapons.net
Maintenance fees:
Power Generators (all) -- 1440/day
Personal Harvesters -- 720/day
Medium Harvesters -- 1440/day
Heavy Harvesters -- 2160/day
Effectiveness:
Mediums (including solar) are twice as effective as Personals. The main advantage is that you only get 10 lots, so 10 personals = 5 mediums and you still have 5 lots left.
Heavies (including Fusion) are 3.5x as effective as Personals at only 3x the cost. So not only do 10 personals < 3 Heavies, but the maintenance cost per unit extracted is slightly lower as well.
As for calculating all of your costs, how many power extracters you need for your other extracters, etc. I would recommend checking out http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/~swgcraft/harvtool.php It's part of the www.SWGcraft.com website which also has a wealth of information about the various resources that are available, a nearly complete list of schematics, and which is also in the process of adding the information necessary to rapidly identify which resources are "best" for various schematics.
Check it out. I think you'll be pleased. I know I was!
