Okay I have looked but I can't seem to find the answers to these questions.
1) I've crafted several items (a generic crafting tool, a rifle, a carbine, some camp kits and some stim packs) but I haven't to my knowledge received an xp for them (ie a note hasn'ty come on screen saying I have recived crafting xp like it does for all other types of XP). Do you get xp for crafting alone or do people other than yourself have to use these items???? The only XP I have got that I could find was through doing the training missions the droid gives you.
(2) Do you have to be online to get XP when somebody else useswhat you have crafted. ie I craft a rifle, gove it to character A then go offline, if he uses it while I'm offline would I still get the xp or not?
(3) Lastnight I was playing SWG and I was 20 xp away from engineering 1. Suddenly a message came on screen saying I now qualified for Eng 1. This was wierd because I couldn't find any record of recieving any crafting xp (may ahve been there and I missed it but I checked quite hard). I had just received a load of combat XP so I was wondering if that may have been transfered to my artisan skill (no idea why it would) (and I wasn't using a self crafted weapon or armour).
(4) is there anyway to gain crafting xp from doing crafting missions??
Please help me as nobody so far seems to have any answers to these questions

1) Crafting items does not give a message, but you do earn xp from just making items. They don't have to be used (by you or anyone) to get the base xp.
2) As far as people have been able to tell, you have to be online and in the same "zone" (the location you get when you do a "/who") as the player using your item. The usage xp for most items appear to be 50% of the xp you earn from originally creating it. For "charged" items (droid batteries, stim packs, food) you get the xp when the last dose is used. For continuous use items (weapons, armor, installations) I don't know if there's a "tick" system (where you get some xp after it's used a certain amount of time up to the usage xp max) or some other method of tracking. I suppose it's possible for usage xp to be stored on the other player's character until you get into range, then transfers the xp to your character.
3) Were you crafting items? If not, someone in the area probably used something you created. Again, gaining crafting xp does not generate any system messages.
4) Crafting missions do give general crafting xp. I think it's around 100xp for making the "hyperdrive tuning modulator" (or whatever widget you put together for those). Survey missions do not give any xp for completing them, but you could obviously sample at the location you find to earn survey xp.
Hope those help.

Thanks for the info.
I wonder if the devs should consider having crafting xp come up on screen so that at least you know whats going on??

You can put up the on-screen XP monitor which, while it doesn't do the combat XP scroll, you can watch the green bar creep.
And creep.
And creep.
And no, yelling at it doesn't make it move faster. It just creeps. And creeps......
(Guru needs to go lie down. The grind, the GRIND!)
Take care,
