I have looked thru all of the FAQs several times, but I ask this question reluctantly... knowing this normally is covered in newb FAQs. I couldn't find information on what to grind up the Engineering xp line? I have Survey IV and now moved on to Engineer xp, but cannot find what everyone is using.
Can some kind soul point me in the right direction, please?

use a generic or /weapon droid item crafting tool and just craft like medical crafting tools up to engineering 3 then grind any of the deeds with structure crafting tools, takes a max of like 10 minutes

I have only been playing a month, so I admit my limited perspective upfront. From what I have read, most recommend the personal harvesters once you reach that point (eng 3 and 4). They areactually useful. Granted, they will be low in base extraction rate, but unless you have some other source of credits, you can't afford to go buy heavies. The personals are useful till you can either make or buy something better. If you have survey IV, (18,000 survey exp), you should have sampled lots of inorganic resources to make these.
But in many ways, it doesn't make much difference what you "grind" with. I don't think there is a huge market for low end cdef weapons, but doing them in practice mode gets you extra xp anyway. Or if you hunt a lot, and picked up novice scout, you can use the hides and bone for the clothing line or meat to make the simple foods. Crafting xp is generic, so you can go up the entire engineering tree by only makingfoods, or go up the domestic arts tree by just making weapons and harvesters.
Part of the answer as to what to grind; depends on what resources you have to grind with. If you have surveyed a lot, use up those rocks. If you have been hunting, use up those animal hides and bones. I think most folks view the grind as a way to get somewhere else; Isuredidn't makeevery food in the domestic arts tree just to see what it did. (And as I write this, Iwonder if I should.)
Remember, it's a game. Do the grind the best way you can enjoy it. Yes, that is an oxymoron. Have fun.

Use any of the surveying tools that use around 27 resources - like the wind surveying tool. All they take is metal and maybe some steel, which means you only deal with one resource, and clicking it a few times while making the items.
Do it in practice mode to get more xp, so you don't actually create any items, you just get more xp.You don't really need 1,000 survey devices. You should get around 54 + a practice bonus.
It will take awhile, but it will use little resources, and you'll be up the engineering line in no time.
I always look for an item to grind on that uses as little different resources as possible. Then you can just keep your mouse hovered over where the steel is, and just click away when you bring up the craft window.
Make sure you have at least 4 weapon/droid/generic item crafting tools so you don't have to wait to complete the item in order to start a new one - just click on a new tool.
Good luck!

Hmm. When I was grinding up to Chef, what I used was about 7-8k of crystalline gemstone and all I did was make small glasses. 9 seconds to make one, with two or three crafting tools you're going to be clicking very fast, but you're also going to be picking up xp at a remarkable rate. When you get to 040x, you can move to making large glasses... more xp per glass, at basically the same xp/resource ratio.
I think I ended up calculating that 20k - 24kcrystalline gemstone would basically fill all three crafting lines of Artisan. It's a method I like because it requires selecting only one resource.
