Thread: question on survey while mounted in new patch

didnt make it on test to try it, or login today--but does anyone know if you can survey on a bike (rather than a creature mount) and can you survey while moving (or do you need to come to complete stop)

The only logical thing would be that you have to be stopped. Otherwise, when you finally do get the survey results, you will already be past the point of the highest concentration for that survey attempt.
This is gonna help a lot for those who have to survey and have 0 combat skills. Just hope they hurry up and get things working so we can get to it! LOL

I agree, I hope in the future it changes to only mounts... Cruzin on my speeder just doesn't make much sense.
IRL a Surveyor takes time at his job to get the best results.
ISWG everything is changed to make it a "speedier" game.
Don't see the reason in fixing something thats not broken...

Honestly, I don'thavea preferenceone way or another, butif they do change it so that it is just animal mounts, what was the point of putting it in? Animal mounts are so slow compared to an AV-21 or even an X-34 landspeeder that it will still be faster to just drive around and use my faithful dismount, survey, mount macro than to survey from my mount.
Don't get me wrong, as a former creature handler I love my mounts just as much as the next guy, but if I'm surveying (not my favorite thing in the world to do) I'm looking for speed. I save my mounts for those times that I'm hunting where speed might actually cause me to miss a good spawn of enemies.

Just to add to Guru's answers:
It originally sounded like surveying was only going to be allowed from creature mounts, not vehicles. So while you can do it from a speeder (which I found very nice in my time on TC), you may not be able to count on vehicle surveying in future patches. Besides, sending out the survey pulses while trotting around on a Cu-pa just looks cooler. 
You can survey while moving, which isn't really any different regarding results assurveying while moving on foot. You can also sample while mounted (which I personally think is silly, but there may have been implementation problems separating the survey/sample validity checks), but for that you do have to be stationary.

I shouldn't have been so terse.
I was never able to ascertain for certain if the ability to survey from a vehicle was an accident or on purpose. It was vague to me.
So, unless someone can show me otherwise, it's a feature, not a bug.

Yes, I know they said "Mounts" in the patch notes. That's still vague. You /mount vehicles and creatures. I want to see/not see the words "Creature" and "Vehicle" in the notes to make it perfectly clear.

I hope the feature of being able to survey and sample on vehicles does stay in.I just did a survey mission on yavin 4 as my unarmoured, unbuffed ithorian artisan. I got through it with the dismount, survey, mount, WATCH THE RADAR!, routine; but it's a lot safer to stay mounted. And quicker to boot.
The other thing I noticed last night was that harvesters can be serviced mounted. I never noticed that before, but I didn't try it either. Maybe it was always that way. That's another nice thing when there is a big critter 30 meters away from the 1000 CD steel harvester on dantooine.

It's always been that way.
You also used to be able to service your harvesters while incapped, assuming you were incapped right next to them of course. I don't know if that one still works or not. It's been a long time since I was incapped close enough to a harvestor to test it out.
