Hey there..i have had a rodian toon on Corbantis for 90% of the total time i have been with SWG...recently i wanted to try something different...so i created an Artisan alt on Wanderhome.

I was amazed at how fun it was...it ws something completely different! I mastered it in 3 days! i just made bone armour, and sold it! i would sell it, and watch as my email lit up, as people gobbled up my armour, and cdef weapons! i was thrilled to be a "provider" of equipment!

Then i decided to go Weaponsmith...and i hit a wall...a 90degree wall to be precise!

The grind was just insane! drinding 10k of resources to craft millions of combat staffs to fill one box, is not my definition of fun...I want to get to master, so i can make good weapons, but i hate grinding, it took my Corbantis toon over a year to get to Master Ranger, Master Rifleman..

Anyways, i love surveying, and setting up harvesters, I like to RP..so i named my Twi'lik Reelov Hooth. And named my company Ryloth Industries..anyone on Wanderhome who sees harvesters named Ryloth Industries you now know who ownes them!!!

Anyways..
I can make Bone armour now with 31% energy resist, 11% electricity resist...i know i can do better, but unfortunately the resource spawns on Wanderhome, are kinda crappy...I am gathering Sharnaff hide sections, and voritor hide sections and waiting for better resource spawns to make even better armour....

I make great CDEF weapons, i can get over Max 80 damage

anyways...i would just like to say....my alt Reelov Hooth, enjoys the Artisan profession!!!!!

Anyone on Wanderhome....i have firework displays at the Corellia starport to Get the name of my company out into the public..if you ever wish to join forces with me, we can offer the public a grand fireworks show complete with dancers...it will be a great way to attract buisness to our companies.....

Welcome!

*UPDATE* I moved this to a new thread here please comment there, not here.

Always nice to see new folks with positive experiences (with Artisan, anyway).

I hear you on the grind. Weaponsmith is pretty bad that way. I think Armorsmith is a tough grind too.

I've been working with some of the other crafting correspondents trying to dream up ways to make the game more fun for non-master crafting elites.

One of the core issues, in my opinion, is that there is nearly nothing that a novice, say Weaponsmith, can make that will sell. One of the key issues isn't the schematics, there are some Okay products in the novice box, or other lower level boxes. The problem is experimentation.

As a non-master, you are held back by three 'gates' from making high quality products:

1- Schematic selection: The more you learn, the better items you can make, typically

2- Assembly and Experimentation skill: As you advance, your chances of high quality assembly rolls and experimentation rolls, reducing critical failures and increasing Amazing successes.

3- Experimentation Points: you get one at novice and one for every 10 points of experimentation skill. These represent "Attempts" to experiment the item you are making. The more attempts, ultimately, the better the product. It can make a huge difference in the final product.

As a novice, I think it is very appropriate that 'gates' 1 and 2 above are correct and appropriate. I take issue with gate 3. I've proposed giving a crafter of any skill level 10 experimentation points. No increase in Experimentation skill, mind you, just the points. Their chances of a great success experimenting will be less than a master, crit fails more frequent.

The idea is that a novice should be able to make their schematics as well as is possible, given the rolls and access to good resources.

My thinking is that this will allow non-masters to produce products with actual value on the market. If this becomes true, the pressure to 'power grind' to master will be lessened and your advancement in the skill will be come more 'natural'. You'd level as a side-effect of making your product to sell.

What do y'all think?

I like this idea - it doesn't really make sense that a master can experiment more than a novice (its more likely that a novice would make more experiments than the master).
The main difference is, that a master would be better at experimenting as they've learn what works better by that time.

Hey,

I realized my idea would work better in its own thread.

Please find it here

Please move comments to that new thread, please, so they won't get lost.
